Listen to them all

Rather than try to track down all the stories by Poe just get this and listen to them. I now know where a lot of the 60's and 70's got there movie idea's that have bloomed into the ones being made. I recognized a movie Errol Flynn did before he died. A good listen.

Very dark. Twisted.

Narrator was unfortunate. Bland.

No.

If you like dark stories this is your book.

Enthusiastic performance. Unlistenable production.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I wouldn't change the content or the enthusiastic performance but the high and low audio levels makes it nearly impossible to listen to. Be prepared to keep your pointer on the level controls as it goes from inaudible to blasting the eardrums at the drop of the hat.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Inaudible to ear blasting audio levels.

Poe is awesome

Narration did not deter the greatness of Poe. The characters were portrayed accurately. Audible books are a great idea.

Long and challenging but hearty and entertaining!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! It's perhaps the best way to get to know Edgar Allan Poe's works.

What did you like best about this story?

The incredible richness and wit that characterizes EAP! While I was somewhat turned off by the complexity of the first stories, once I got used to the increased stimulus of the intellect (it was about time!) I really enjoyed it!

What does Bob Thomley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Bob Thomley's voice, pace and interpretation of various characters and styles are superb! Please forgive him for his french and latin, after all he is an anglophone!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Short adventures by Edgar Allan Poe.

If you're looking for something a bit more challenging than the mainstream, yet not overwhelming, this is it. If rich language and delightful reading appeal to you, this is it.

Would you consider the audio edition of Edgar Allan Poe - The Complete Short Stories to be better than the print version?

Yes,by far. I have a tough time reading some of Poe's stories.
Listening to Bob Thomley made it fun.

What a Gem!

A wonderful collection of Poe's short stories expertly performed (and this is no small feat!) I thoroughly enjoy each perfectly-lengthed story, and feel as though receiving this for free finds me guilty of some crime of petty thievery! If you enjoy Poe, it's a must-listen. If you haven't read Poe since high school, it's all but mandatory that you revisit these works here. Enjoy!

5/7 Would Buy Again

This has a few great stories that you can't find everywhere, however, it also has a small handful of my least favorite. Bob Thomley is subtle enough to not jar your attention away from the story but does not fail to have very lovely inflection.
