Acerca de esta escucha

In the second Myron Bolitar novel from Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben, a young woman’s tragic death spirals into a shattering drama of menace, secrets, and rage. Suddenly Myron is in over his head—and playing the most dangerous game of all.

“Coben is simply one of the all-time greats.”—Gillian Flynn

Once, Valerie Simpson’s tennis career skyrocketed; now, the headlines belong to a player from the wrong side of the tracks. But when Valerie is shot dead in cold blood and dropped outside the stadium at the U.S. Open, sports agent Myron Bolitar investigates the killing and uncovers a connection between the two players and a six-year-old murder at an exclusive mainline club. As Myron is drawn into the case—along with a dirty U.S. senator, a jealous mother, and the mob—he finds himself caught between a killer and the truth.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"The prose is lean, the story moves briskly, and the dialogue crackles...great fun in the best 'hard-boiled' tradition." (Houston Chronicle)

could not figure out who dunnit

Really enjoyed narration & story. Narrator's voice very good and changing voice for characters was believable (for the most part). Story premise was interesting, plus it kept me guessing. Myron & Win are a great team and writing is surprising witty for a murder mystery. Really like this series so far!

Loved the storyline

I purchased this book in the middle of the night just before I went to sleep and the next morning I’d thought I made a mistake. However, I started listening to it and found that it was a pretty good book minus the narrator. He had a nice enough voice but I had listened to Win first and that narrator was so much better that I expected something more.

Anyway I might listen to it again I just have to get Chris Weber (the narrator of the book Win) his voice was so rich and cultured, befitting of a rich arrogant rich man like Win, Myron Bolitar’s best friend if you haven’t listened to Win you should.

fun

The only reason the story doesn't get 4 stars is because I figured it out pretty early, I think he made this one a little more obvious compared to the first book, where I didn't know the answer until it was revealed. Still, there were other details I didn't get, it was a fun listen. zl

Easy listening

Likeable characters, easy to follow plot, good presentation. Entertaining. The sarcasm in a bit immature.

Decent listen

Harlan has much better stories out there but this one’s a good read / listen. It’s clearly his early work which is still classic Coben, Win and Myron are always a lot of fun.

Funny, Intriguing, and Engaging

My favorite Coben book yet. Myron and Wynn are at their funniest, the tennis scene makes a nice backdrop, and the mystery keeps you guessing. The author does an excellent job as usual. I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Dropped Shot

After reading 30 Harlan Coben titles (almost all in audio), I had to reach back to his second novel, the second entry in the Myron Bolitar series, to find one that did not wholly satisfy me. While watching a client compete in the U.S. Open tennis tournament, a prospective client of Myron's boutique sports agency is murdered out in the open at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing.

Myron is intent on finding the murderer despite being warned off by the police, the mafia, a U.S. senator, the victim's parents, even his own client. His pursuit uncovers the truth behind another murder from years earlier as well as a serious sexual predator. When Myron finally identifies the real killer, it's quite the surprise.

But it's a bit of ho-hum moment. The final reveal may tie up many loose ends, the general feeling is, so what? It doesn't really have much to do in any interesting way with tennis, or sexual predators, or U.S. senators, or the mafia. I've never felt let down by a Coben reveal before -- and it took a number of talkers to explain it, also not a typical Coben flaw.

The saving grace is Myron himself, along with his sidekick Win, wise cracking their way through every scene and dropping umpteen cultural references (though many have become majorly outdated over the past 27 years). Still a good Coben read, but not the best, of which there is a lot of in his work.
