The fiercest urban battle in recent history, to retake the city of Mosul from ISIS, lasted nine months. Thousands were killed, millions displaced. How to help in such a massive and desperate situation? This is the story of how one small organization from Burma answered that question: go. Give up your own way, help the people, share love.

As coalition forces, led by brave Iraqi soldiers on the ground, slowly pushed ISIS out, the brutality of the terrorists was turned against thousands of civilians as they fled the fighting. There was no humanitarian template for responding to such ruthlessness; to attempt to help would take total commitment.

Birthed in the war zones of Burma to stand with villagers under attack by the Burma Army and provide medical care, relief, and reporting, the Free Burma Rangers came to Mosul with 20 years of war-zone experience in the jungle. Led by their founder, David Eubank, medics and cameramen from the teams in Burma, other foreign volunteers, and Dave's wife and three children came to fill the gap between the front lines and the humanitarian community. They came living by the conviction that every person counts and the only force that can defeat hate is love. Four team members were wounded and one killed as they lived out that conviction with total commitment. This is their story.

An excellent example of how to show love

I thought this story was very inspirational. From the backstory of FBR to their call to help in the battle of Mosul. This story is peppered with amazing stories of every decision being taken to the Lord in prayer. I was also impressed by how the author discusses how many of those prayers were with high ranking military officials. Additionally there are so many stories of selfless acts done only because of love snd the start of that love begins with Jesus.

I only rated 4 stars for performance because often I could hear the narrator flipping pages.

Real love

I had no idea how this would affect me. Compassion awakened. People's suffering and sacrifice made real to me.

A mesmerizing true account of Gods love in action in the midst of great danger and in the face of evil. And an encouragement to be bold and brave as you trust God and follow Him. A must read!

Crazy Fella - meaningful story

By no means is Mr. Eubanks the most prolific story teller. Nevertheless, this is a meaningful story. He's blurred the lines between warrior and missionary. That might mean nothing to normal folks, but these are the circumstances every Christian soldier and Christian police officer deal with daily. I have been both of those things and this is an extremely tough subject to cover. God can guide you even in the worst of circumstances, because he is there. God isn't limited to expensive church buildings, pastors in skinny jeans, and the average unexposed comfortable congregation. Good job Dave.
