Acerca de esta escucha

Knox Price has always fallen short in comparison to his brothers. Boone is the ambitious one. Clay is the nice one. Gage is the handsome one. And Knox? Well, he's the cynical one. The odd man out in the ultra-wealthy but rather unique Price family.

It's not that Knox hates people - it's that humanity always disappoints him. When you become an oil-rich Texan billionaire overnight, people treat you a certain way. Just once he'd like to meet someone who isn't dazzled by his wallet.

Then he meets struggling yoga teacher Lexi Brandon. She's weird. She's unpredictable and tends to say strange things. She lurks in the bushes and dresses in all black. She loves when people cross the street to get away from her. Lexi's definitely not his type, but she's also the first one to ever truly see him and not just another rich, dirty Price. And that's...fascinating.

But how do you catch the interest of a woman who goes out of her way to be odd? When an unexpected surprise throws them both for a loop, Knox decides it's time to get down and dirty, abandon the rules, and be who he truly is - a bastard.

Contains mature themes.

One-sided baggage made this a bit of a downer

I was super excited to see oddball-goth Lexi as the FMC here, and her quirks and bent sense of humor were definitely one of the highlights. Knox’s matching quirks, like his kleptomania, were also fun. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of baggage on Lexi’s end while Knox is uniformly patient, supportive, and too unbelievably nice. Instead of two pistols going at it, this was a slow, sweet burn.

⛔️ TW: This story prominently features a huge back (and present) story of toxic boyfriends, stalking, and domestic violence. There’s no actual violence beyond mention of past bruising, however I was upset by the length of time that Lexi let the guy invade her life. I get that leaving abusive people is tough and potentially dangerous. In romance, however, I’d like for the FMC to be somewhat self-empowered, smart, and strong. Here, Lexi made one self-destructive decision after another and got her HEA only by Knox solving all her problems with his money and his smarts.

I adjusted to Mr. Sanda’s MMC accent but not to the voices of the male supporting characters. Another oddity was using the same MMC voice in each book, so here Knox sounded like how Clay sounded in the previous book and whenever Clay had lines he was given a really strange “Elmer Fudd with a cold” voice. Still, if these are offered again in Plus (or on sale), I’d listen again.

Worst male narrator ever

The story is ok. But, I only know that because I read the book on my Kindle. I listened to the male narrator for all of 5 minutes before I couldn’t listen anymore. He was wretched. He was obviously making fun of Southern accents. I don’t know anyone that talks like that.

I did listen to the female narrator & she did just fine. More natural.

Male narrator was horrible

I couldn't get past the third chapter. The male narrator sounded like a freaking backwoods moron. I may be a good book but I just couldn't do it
