Not my favourite

I really wanted to love this, but I found it extremely slow to get going and without the two most important things I expect from a Peter Clines novel - awesome characters/character interactions, and twists.

I felt that the characterization was too little and much too late. I didn't have any reason at all to care about any of the characters until about 2/3 of the way into the book. By then, I would have already returned it, if it wasn't a Threshold book, to be honest.

The first 2/3 of the book is a very linear, standard story without surprises of any kind. It just wasn't very interesting, especially without strong characterization to carry the story along. There weren't any of the cool mysteries like the green roaches or blacklight fixture of "14", to pique my interest and make me wonder what was around the corner.

Don't get me wrong - there are some really cool scenes, and the Big Bad when it finally appears, really delivers! I feel like this book would have worked WAY better as a novella that omitted most of the first part of the story. I just didn't feel the moon zombies really added anything. Which is too bad because I thought the concept of moon zombies was pretty exciting :P

Still looking forward to the next book... just hoping it will be a little more like 14 and The Fold as far as pacing/characterization!

I was expecting much better from this book

I've been a big Peter Clines fan since "The Junkie Quatrain" and I've listened to the first 2 books in the "Threshold" series several times. for some reason I've had to struggle to get interested in "Dead Moon"and I'm just not feeling it. However I am the first to admit that with audio books, I can be really hard to please. so if you're a fan I still suggest that you get the book and give it a try.

Not as good as first two threshold books

The premise of the book is cool but the story is a hot mess. So disappointed in what cold have been amazing. It seems rushed and loosely put together.

Believe the reviews. Ugh.

This book is somehow labeled the next in “The Threshold” series, after The Fold. That was enough for me to buy it. I didn’t read the reviews, because I didn’t want to spoil it—and didn’t think I needed to read them, given how much I enjoyed the other two books.

The narration is superb. The story is Zombies on the Moon. That’s about it. I suppose this book might work for you if you’re into zombies. Because it’s zombies, but on the Moon. I don’t care about zombies, so I don’t know whether Clines brings anything new (other than the Moon!?) to the genre.

I really don’t know what The Threshold series is about, but I do know I’ll read the reviews of the next one before I buy!

Disappointing

I love 14 and The Fold, so when I saw that Dead Moon was the 3rd in the Threshold series I was excited. And then I read the synopsis and realized that the characters I had grown to love in those books were not going to be part of this one. That's disappointing to say the least.

And the start of this one is a bit slow. So I was tempted to just stop listening, but I decided to ignore that it's supposed to be a sequel and stuck with it because I do love listening to Ray Porter and the action picked up a bit. But then the idiots were super idiotic and zombies and ugh.

Overall, as a stand alone story it's OK. Ray Porter's narration elevates it a bit. But I'm sad that the Threshold series didn't get a better 3rd story.

Was hoping for more mystery.

After reading the fold and 14, you expect some level of overall mystery that builds as the book goes. This was a change of pace, much more action than strangeness.

Not that great.

While I loved The Fold and 14 this one felt like a bad TV movie.
The stupid choices the characters make pulled me out constantly.
Felt like the choice to put this book in the same universe was a financial one.

Where was the connection?

So far, I have listened to—and very much enjoyed—the other books of the series. This one was a bit of a miss, though. It felt like the throwaway bridging episode in a TV series. The story was so-so and there wasn't a really strong connection to the other books in the series/universe. The vocal performance saved this one from being a total dud. I'm hoping there is a next book in the series and that it connects back to the originals in a much stronger way.

Very entertaining

The is a fairly original idea on a classic theme. The narration was excellent and the story was fast paced with many unpredictable but believable ( at least within the setup of the story ) twists.

oh, come on--zombies?

I didn't see anything in the reviews that mentioned zombies. Maybe I just didn't look closely enough, so I'm making sure this review mentions zombies. Lunar zombies. Despite attempts to make it all OK by attempted clever allusions to Night of the Living Dead, nothing separates this from any other typical boilerplate zombie narrative. It's on the moon, of course, and weapons are banned, so there are many pages of zombies being beaten to death with whatever is available in a minimal environment . . . so I guess, for zombie lovers, that's the main attraction: page after page of undead people having their brains beaten out of them. Yippee.
