If you do, County was written by a retired small town cop (that’s me), inspired by real-life experiences (but everything, including people, places, or events, in the book is fictional, to be clear), and I only held back a little. Cops talk a certain way in real life, and I didn’t want that to get lost just because it’s a book. As a result, there’s humor too, but it’s not the focus.

What’s County About? It’s a scorching summer in rural Arkansas, and Deputy Sam Bennett’s just trying to survive another shift. A routine traffic stop turns into a brawl with two giant brothers, a domestic call ends with a drunk tumbling off a balcony, and a murder connects to a meth-fueled pair of bikers.

From investigating a murder to navigating a love triangle with a fiery clerk and a drug-addled ex, Sam’s knee-deep in organized crime involving a crooked sheriff, a wannabe kingpin named Richard Conoco, and a plot to control the county’s highways. With his Arkansas toothpick and a knack for bad decisions, Sam has to make a choice between the law and what’s right.
