Acerca de esta escucha
Are you confused by what your cholesterol levels really say about your health? Don't you wish someone could just spell it out in simple English and tell you what, if anything, you need to do to improve your heart and overall health? That's precisely what Cholesterol Clarity is designed to do. Jimmy Moore, a prolific and highly respected health blogger and podcaster, interviewed 28 of the world's top health experts from various fields to give you the complete lowdown on cholesterol. He and his co-author, family practitioner and researcher Dr. Eric Westman, have broken down this critical information for you to know what is most important and what is not.
You won't find this kind of comprehensive, cutting-edge, expert-driven cholesterol information all in one place anywhere else. Did you know, for instance, that you don't have to eat a low-fat diet, take a statin drug, or eat more of the so-called "healthy" whole grains to get your cholesterol levels where they need to be? Learn what really works from the best experts on the subject. Cholesterol Clarity will not only tell you what your LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and other key cholesterol markers really mean, but it will arm you with what you can do nutritionally to become as optimally healthy as you can possibly be!
Featured Experts: Dr. William Davis, Dr. Ronald Krauss, Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, Dr. Robert Lustig, Dr. Duane Graveline, Dr. Jonny Bowden, Dr. Chris Masterjohn, Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Dr. John Briffa, Dr. Thomas Dayspring, Dr. Fred Pescatore, Gary Taubes and over a dozen more!

Based on 20 years of investigative reporting and interviews with 100 practicing physicians who embrace the keto lifetstyle as the best prescription for their patients' health, Taubes' book puts the ketogenic diet movement in the necessary historical and scientific perspective. It makes clear the vital misconceptions in how we've come to think about obesity and diet (no, people do not become fat simply because they eat too much; hormones play the critical role) and uses the collected clinical experience of the medical community to provide essential practical advice.

Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

Heart disease is the number-one killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols - with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol - have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease.

Historia
Leading health blogger Jimmy Moore and researcher and internist Dr. Eric C. Westman join forces again to explain the powerful therapeutic effects of a ketogenic diet—one that combines a customized carbohydrate restriction, moderation of protein intake, and real food-based fats—which is emerging in the scientific literature as a means for improving a wide range of diseases, from Type 2 diabetes to Alzheimer's and more. Simply eating a low-carb diet alone isn't enough, and Moore and Westman tell you why. Have you looked at a low-carb diet simply as a means to lose weight? What if you learned that combining a low-carb nutritional approach with a high fat intake produces a powerful therapeutic effect on a wide variety of health conditions that most people think requires medication to control? That’s what Keto Clarity is all about. Jimmy Moore, a leading low-carb diet blogger and podcaster, has reunited with his Cholesterol Clarity co-author Dr. Eric C. Westman, a practicing internist and low-carb diet researcher, to bring you the crystal-clear information you need to understand what a ketogenic diet is and why it may be the missing element in your pursuit of optimal health. This book includes exclusive interviews from twenty of the world's foremost authorities from various fields bringing their depth of expertise and experience using this nutritional approach. Moore and Westman explain why ketosis is normal and how this nutritional approach is being used therapeutically by many medical professionals. You will find a step-by-step guide to help you produce more ketones and track your progress, real life success stories, and more. The solid evidence for nutritional ketosis in dealing with many of the chronic health problems of our day is presented, including but not limited to: epilepsy, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome.

In the late 1970s when the government mandated we get the fat out of our food, the food industry responded by pouring more sugar in. The result has been a perfect storm, disastrously altering our biochemistry and driving our eating habits out of our control. To help us lose weight and recover our health, Robert Lustig presents personal strategies to readjust the key hormones that regulate hunger, reward, and stress; and societal strategies to improve the health of the next generation.

For decades we have been taught that fat is bad for us, carbohydrates better, and that the key to a healthy weight is eating less and exercising more. Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to good health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number.

Excellent but, with poor recording issues
What did you love best about Cholesterol Clarity?
The subject matter in this book is excellent. It is on point and provides plenty of analogy to make an otherwise difficult topic easy to digest. Nearly everything you would want to know about the state of cholesterol and current screening processes for heart disease which, are likely shortsighted at best.
What other book might you compare Cholesterol Clarity to and why?
This is better than Keto Clarity overall. Jimmy Moore seemed to be more on point with this book and less redundant. However, there are major recording issues in here where you can hear clearly that he overdubbed parts of the book later. It is distracting but, does not totally ruin the book. However, I am surprise he did not re-record the whole thing to make it more professional.
Any additional comments?
Recording quality is not great at times.

great information recording could have been better
Jimmy Moore provides great information on cholesterol, what the numbers mean, and the affect on your health. Jimmy always backs up his information with experts and research so I trust his writing. My only criticism in the recording quality in some sections. It seems the edits were made differently than the main recording. So as you're listening there are sections where he sounds like he's in a cave. This was a little annoying, but became less frequent as the book went on. I still highly recommend this book as the information is so vital and enlightening; a necessary read for anyone that wants to be in optimal health.

Life Saving Book - bought 4 hard copies to share
This book will save lives. It was just the start of a journey through other books along the line of the damage done to our bodies via grains / carbs / sugar and the healing and healthful benefits of good fats. The programming the public has received in the past decades has been upside down and backwards and as a result many people have suffered with inflammation, heart disease, diabetes, alzheimers, cancer, and shortened lives with much of their budget spent on pharmaceuticals when simple knowledge of how food works in the body would have led to health, happier days and ease of movement.
How many people suffer because they don't know what is in this book and the other books along this line of knowledge? How many families have been broken due to family members dying, or suffering long illness or loss of everything they have worked for to pay medical bills?
Audible has numerous books now along this line, and while the audio editing of this book is poor, the message alone is valuable. I gave this book in hardcover to people who have need for it. One person (the smartest of the group) has eliminated 2 prescriptions so far and is feeling less aches and pains and has improved her quality of life. Two people are not "readers" so the books given are unused. One person skims and says the message is valid, but does not have the will power to change their diet.
This book can change, improve, and save lives by providing people with the power to understand their bodies, how lab tests are used to justify the broad use of pharmaceuticals, and empowers people to change.
Some doctors are up-to-date and understand this information. Too many still don't. It is up to the proactive person to take personal responsibility for what they eat and change their health. This book is a foundational understanding. There are other books that carry on and give great dietary information - also on Audible.

A good book, but
Where does Cholesterol Clarity rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I think its information is good. It references many other books that I have listened to on audible.com. So it's not just an author providing his own claims or theories. He also has an expert who helps him with writing the book.
What did you like best about this story?
The book as a whole is very informative and very simplistic. That makes for easy comprehension. I love the clarity notes with the sound because it alerts you enough to pay attention to the supporting information to back up the claim.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The quality of the book is the main issue. Some segments are great some segments should have been redone. The audio quality goes from sounding like it was done in the studio to sounding like it was done in someone's bathroom. There were also too many long pauses between sections. And finally, the narrator has a bad habit of smacking his lips between sentences. The smacking ceased the further into the book you get.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No real reactions other than getting annoyed (smacking, long pauses) or having those aha moments.
Any additional comments?
Overall if you can tolerate the smacking, long pauses, and changes in audio quality, the book is very informative and comprehensible. I think anyone who wants to better understand cholesterol should get the book.

This book is informative & the info is stunning compared to our main stream thoughts on cholesterol. However, if you've read Keto Clarity there is really no need to read this book unless you just really want to go further in depth on cholesterol.
