Acerca de esta escucha

A disturbing package leads Detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott to investigate four dangerous murder suspects in this "magnetic" British mystery (Michiko Kakutani, New York Times) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.

When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them...

Career of Evil is the third in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, Career of Evil is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives.

Not my favorite of the Strike series, still good

I've finished all the Strike Novels in a week's time now and maybe some distance will help me in ranking all of them. I like this one, I thought it was still very good but it might be my least favorite of the series. Again not that it was bad, I do think however having chapters from the point of view of the killer distracted a bit. Personally I would have preferred just Cormoran and Robin's POV

Best yet, even though the ending sort of broke my heart

I loved "Robert Galbraith's" first book before I ever learned it was a pen name. This is my favorite to date, a rare pre-order, and a fantastic listen, due in part to another fantastic reading from Robert Glenister. Cheers to author and narrator both!

Another great one!

I love these books so much. Strike is a great character & the narrator does an amazing job bringing the characters to life. I only wish I had discovered this series later- only that I could binge listen to all three of them all at once. :)
This story was no exception to the greatness. And the ending - curses on you RG! I want to know what happens next!!
Great author. Great narrator. Great story. You won't be disappointed.

annoyed

LOVE the series but the side love story was too much. I read for the murder and the mystery so I'd like to see that story resolve itself.

Fun...in a very sick way. Great entertainment.

What could be better than a deranged psychopath on the loose? THREE deranged psychopaths on the loose! The crimes are gruesome, but the dynamics between Cormoran and Robin and their abilities at deductive reasoning make this a very entertaining potboiler. Galbraith (Rowling) is a gifted story teller. We learn more about the previous lives of Strike and Ellacot, which brings them more fully to life. This isn't highbrow stuff, but it sure is entertaining. Highly recommended.

The Third Book Develops the Characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Any additional comments?

First, I truly enjoyed the first two books in this series, and they were made all the better by the narrator who does an excellent job. Along with me, my daughter (age 22) and my girlfriend have been listening to these books.

We all agree that J.K. Rowling is an excellent writer. Since my daughter grew up on the Potter books, I wondered if she would find the much more adult writing a turn-off, but she loves it too.

Corcoran Strike is one of those interesting characters in a book where you wonder why the author put certain limitations on. Much like in the television series House, Strike has a gimpy leg (partial amputation) that limits his physical ability and is a constant background to the storyline. But just as in House, it makes him more human. This isn't a detective like Harry Bosch or hero like Jack Reacher. Instead he is much more human, more real, while still having the specialness that we expect in a hero.

I thought this book was an excellent extension of the previous two with the main characters moving forward in their lives in a real-to-life manner. They are not standing still doing more heroic feats. We really don't know what to expect next. At points in the book I found myself upset that the author would take the character down a certain path, but later I realized that the chosen path was what was necessary for the character to develop.

It's an excellent book. I'd recommend it, but read the other two first.

fantastic series-Hurry up with the next book!

I just love this series. I love the 2 main characters, Cormoran and Robin. I love RG/JKR writing.
This is a worthy followup to the 2 previous Strike novels. It is gory, and suspenseful. But what i loved most were the backstories on Cormoran and Robin. as well as the further development of the 2 characters and their relationship. Also wondering how Shanker will figure into future books. Also fantastic narration. I feel i know these characters.
Hurry up with the next book!

The best of the Cormoran Strike series

I was annoyed with JKR after I (tried to) read Casual Vacancy. It seemed like she was stretching out her writing muscles after HP, which is all good and fine but don't charge us $25 to read your writing practice. Having said that, I adore the Strike series. The characters are as fully developed as in the Harry Potter series; each is as unique as the individuals you know in your own life. This is the third in the series and the best mystery so far. I often bail out of a mystery once I've figured it out or the author has revealed the secret. This story was interesting until the end. I confess to listening to several other books while in the middle of Career of Evil; I wanted to stretch it out. I didn't want to gobble it up and have it be over. Because now the waiting begins for the next one. All is forgiven for that one horrible book, J. More Strike. More!

Loved it--not even knowing it's by JK Rowling!

Great story, completely gripping. The characters are vivid, especially as read by Robert Glenister--wow. All those different accents, which kept the individuals separate and distinct. I can't wait to listen to the others in this series. And I didn't know the true identity of the author until the credits at the end--now I'm even more of a Rowling fan!
