March 11, 2017, was a night to remember: In front of the hopeful eyes of thousands of friends, family members, and fans, the Arlee Warriors would finally bring the high school basketball state championship title home to the Flathead Indian Reservation. The game would become the stuff of legend, with the boys revered as local heroes. The team’s place in Montana history was now cemented, but for starters Will Mesteth, Jr. and Phillip Malatare, life would keep moving on - senior year was only just beginning.
In Brothers on Three, we follow Phil and Will, along with their teammates, coaches, and families, as they balance the pressures of adolescence, shoulder the dreams of their community, and chart their own individual courses for the future.
Brothers on Three is not simply a story about high school basketball, about state championships and a winning team. It is a book about community, and it is about boys on the cusp of adulthood, finding their way through the intersecting worlds they inhabit and forging their own paths to personhood.

A true and insightful story about reservation life in Montana
An important book that’s more than just about basketball. It highlights the injustices Native Americans still suffer to this day. It’s a true story about community, relationships, cultural values and the importance of role models in a system riddled with inequities. It’s a gripping story about the beautiful game of basketball. I highly recommend this book!

Wonderful
Abe Streep’s Brothers on Three is a wonderful story: poignant, exciting, gripping, heartbreaking. There are layers upon layers to Brothers on Three. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I listened to it on Audible, read it (and listened to it) on my Kindle app, and made notes on my hard copy—my “book.” We often fail to recognize the pressures our children are under. Brothers provides the reader with an intimate look into the lives of the Arlee Warriors. I highly recommend Brothers on Three. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

More than basketball
This story may follow the lives of a few reservation basketball players, but it is SO MUCH MORE. This book gave me hope that the support of a community and for each other CAN happen. Our world could learn from them.
I have developed a respect for these communities and have followed state basketball for many decades. I will be getting the hard copy for my personal library.

Reservation disadvantages
I think this is a wonderful book that gives us only a glimpse of the disparities that happen today. I’m heartened by the resolve and fortitude to overcome sentiment and obstacles. Thank you for writing this book.
