Ryan:

After my divorce to Barb, my life has been just me, my little boy, and my job. Some people might call me overprotective, but as the sheriff of Umberland, I know a lot more than they do about what can happen when you let down your guard. When my high school best friend Christian comes to visit, sure, I remember experimenting with him as teenagers, but what I can't ignore is the fierce attraction that still burns between us.
What's even more, Christian makes me feel safe and protected - something I do for everyone else.

I've never been attracted to a man since Christian...but as soon as I lay my eyes on him, I don't think I'll be attracted to anyone else ever again.

Christian:

I knew I was gay forever, it seems. But my first love was the one that stuck with me all these years: Ryan Rainier. He's a big deal in the police department now, and as a man in uniform, he's every bit as gorgeous as he was in those young years.

But Ryan's straight, right? So why does he keep looking at me that way, with hunger in his eyes?

Am I just seeing what I want to see? And can I risk losing a lifelong friend for a shot at love?

Breaking In is the second audiobook in the Rainier Family series and can be listened to on its own. Full of trusty, lusty, second-chance love, breaking down walls, Rainiers for days, and a whole big, bustling small-town family waiting for its HEA.

The story flowed nicely and I enjoyed the narration as well. I liked the character description and their story seemed to flow nicely. plan to look out for more from this author or Narrator.

Great story, great narration

While I liked the first book better than this one, this was still a good book. Christian swoops back into Ryan's life, stirring up old feelings that he had never really addressed outside of some experimentation with him in the past. So, same kind of theme as the first book...someone from the past that hadn't acknowledged their feelings comes back and a romance ensues. I like that Ryan isn't hesitant about his feelings and a relationship with Christian. I think Christian is the one that is holding back more.

The more I think about this book, I really do see how much similar it is to the first book. Just change out an athlete to a single (newly divorced) dad.

I would still recommend if you liked the previous one. I am hoping the next book has elements that are a bit different than this one and the first.

I really loved this story! I'm a romantic at heart and love the idea of second chance and finding your person...regardless of sex. One MC was in love with the other since high school and the other was his best friend who had a kid and got married. But after reconnecting they work together to make the relationship work. What i also loved about the story was that it was low angst. Although the MC's messed around in high school, one still considered himself straight. But when they reconnected, they didn't questioned their true feelings for each other. All in all, the story was well written.

Not the biggest fan of the narrator voice for one of the MC...especially when it came to their sexual encounters. It sound too feminine and like an actual other third person in the story. But of course the entire book wasn't about sex so it didn't completely took away from the story and I was still able to enjoy the story.

Friends to lovers and I love it!

05/07/19 - Update to Review after Listening to Audio...

Ryan and Christian were best friends in high school who lost track of each other after Ryan got married to a woman. Christian has always been in love with Ryan but couldn’t stand to watch Ryan move on without him, and I really don’t blame him for that. Once he learns Ryan is divorced he comes back to town, looking to see if the connection they had years ago is still there.

This book was a lot hotter than I was expecting it to be. After Ryan and Christian Meet back up and make a connection again they basically go from zero to a hundred in forming a relationship and having some hot and steamy sex. They have some seriously amazing chemistry together. But Ryan’s dumb ex is still in the picture. Along with Ryan’s adorable son. We get some ex drama and some homophobic drama causing some needed angst in this book. But of course it all works out in the end. And we get a pretty great book in the process. I really enjoyed reading this one straight through to the end. It totally captured my attention to the point where I went back and purchased book one to read as well.

Audio - Michael Pauley did a good job narrating this one. Nothing bad to say at all. But also nothing super outstanding either. Still my favorite book of the series especially now that I have the audio for it too. Michael's such a solid narrator at this point I just don't really have all that much to say either way on this one specifically but since I did really enjoy the story the narration just adds to it.

I enjoyed Breaking In. I really enjoyed seeing the two friends, Christian and Ryan fall in love or back in love. It was so sweet and tender. I especially liked any scene with Troy, Ryan’s son.
Michael Pauley did a great job with the narration.

Great low angst audio

The story had me yelling at the characters for being boneheads, but true to form Ashton Cade's story telling is phenomenal.

And Michael Pauley could read me a grocery and make it sound sexy. Outstanding all around.

Man oh Man!

Im not a big fan when Michael uses a feminine voice for a male character. Its very stereotypical, why cant both gay men be masculine? If we wanted a story with a female lead, we wouldn't be listening to gay romance. it takes away from the story all together!

Disappointed:(

Well it was the second book in the Rainier Family series, and it appears to struggle a bit. Initially one of the main characters appears as stalking almost, and that portion of the story of Christian as a professional never seemed resolved.

But there was good, extremely predictable action .

Narration wasn't as good as the first, but seems difficult on a budget to modulate for multiple characters.

I've listened to worse. It is okay.

Not like the first book, but okay for the series.
