New York Times Bestseller
“Into the blender go Anita Loos, Bridget Jones, Sex and the City, and Clueless; out comes a diabolically amusing concoction.” — New York Times
A 10th anniversary edition of New York Times bestselling author Plum Sykes’s sly and amusing satire, with a foreword by the author.
Bergdorf Blondes are a thing, you know, a New York craze. Absolutely everyone wants to be one, but it’s très difficult. You wouldn’t believe the dedication it takes to be a gorgeous, flaxen-haired, dermatologically perfect New York girl with a life that’s fabulous beyond belief. Honestly, it requires a level of commitment comparable to, say, learning Hebrew or quitting cigarettes.
But first, a little bit about moi. The gossips call me a champagne bubble of a girl. I’m fluent in French, intermittently. I gave up England for Princeton to my mother’s horror. By day, I write articles for a fashion magazine. By night, I’m on the prowl for the ultimate accessory a Bergdorf Blonde must have: an impossibly rich man with a very large diamond ring.
And of course, I’m fabulous.

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. We all have things in our life that we should know by now, but don’t. Absences in our knowledge and skillset that are frankly shameful in an adult. Things that would be too embarrassing to ask anyone to explain – except our very best friend. Listen in as Mel and Sue tackle their ignorance head on, asking each other to explain something that they still don’t know - but absolutely, as adults, should - from how to parallel park to fully understanding bread (why has it got all those holes in it? Historia
It's 1985, and at Oxford University, Pimm's, punting, and ball gowns are de rigeur. Ursula Flowerbutton, a studious country girl, arrives for her first term anticipating nothing more sinister than days spent poring over history books in gilded libraries - and, if she's lucky, an invitation to a ball. But when she discovers a glamorous classmate on a chaise longue with her throat cut, Ursula is catapulted into a murder investigation.

story that is more shallow than it's VERY shallow characters
shallow characters, shallow plot. Rich girl talks about fashion, name drops, bangs and couple of guys, the end. There's hardly a plot, no character arc and even the descriptions of the fashion are lacking substance. Shallowness could work if you could at least enjoy the decadence of shallowness, but this is so bland you can't even enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. (the voice actor is very pleasant to listen to though!)

Vapid, annoying characters and sophomoric writing
Absolutely returning this title. Although I will get my credit back, I unfortunately will not get my time back. The writing was extremely poor with overuse of analogies, and the word très. As I spend much time in many of the locations mentioned in this book, I really wanted to like it- or at least find it tolerable. Neither the story nor the performance made it so.
