I need to know how this series ends

Android Deception picks up where Android Paradox leaves off. You are still following special ops android X and his human spec ops… young man (I think you would call him) Shortcut while they try to figure out what in the world is happening to the UEA.

Narration of both books in this series was done by Erik Johnson. The style was done in different voices for different characters, which allows the listener to follow along with ease. Johnson has a great voice and he is very easy to listen to. The quality was also perfect, no issues in volume, sound, background noise or distortion.

Now, I JUST finished the first book earlier today/late last night. I rarely ever get the chance to go from book one RIGHT into book two of a series. But, I got the chance with this. I was happy to do so because the books were so short it was easy to sit down over an afternoon and listen. This book was faster paced than the first one, with the action better written out (the first one felt a bit jerky). X is a much more likeable character now that I have spent some time with him in the first book. Shortcut is… Shortcut. He’s funny and interesting and a bit cocky.

The story, like I said was faster in book two compared to the first book. The action was reaching what I felt like was its peak when the book basically ends. Now, I understand wanting to write the “next trilogy” but I don’t see why this trilogy couldn’t have been written as two books. There is no need for the total break in action right when I as the reader felt like I was going to get some closure—the book just ends. This book loses a whole star from me for its ending (or lack-thereof). With that being said, the book did hook me and I need to know how this series ends. I hope book 3 gives me the ending I feel like I’ve earned.

A worthy number two indeed!

Book 2 in the Android X series is a very worthy follower to book 1.

We get some more background details about the world as a whole, while we follow X and Shortcut around in their hunt for Jeanette Crenshaw and her androids. X gets his memory chip back, and discover some interesting facts.

I won't spoil the story, but instead recommend that you listen - or read - it yourself. It's such a rich and exciting world. The characters are great, they're flawed and wonderfully human - even the androids ;)

I really like how realistic the author has made this book. He makes the futuristic parts sound very natural, while also exciting. Who wouldn't love to have nano bots riding around their body, discovering you have cancer and take care of that while you're sleeping, just to take one example? So many small notes about things like that, dotted throughout the book. Very clever.

We get a big chunk of backstory for the world very nicely woven into the story itself. A great way to integrate it, since it is shown to us through a futuristic museum, and not some awkward conversation about things that both characters already know (which is seen over and over again in a lot of tv shows). Kudos for handling that so well!

I truly enjoyed every minute of this book, and I can't wait for the next one!

Good narration, although the voice of Shortcut is starting to annoy me a bit, but nothing major so far. The narrator does a good job for pacing along with the storyline.
