Can a basset hound, two kittens and twin girls succeed as matchmakers?
In the midst of a northwoods winter, single mom Amy Broussard is helping build her Habitat for Humanity home. This is the security she's always wanted for her twin girls. Then one frigid evening on their way to their small town church potluck, she and her girls rescue two orphaned kittens.
Inside the church basement, she meets the local veterinarian Jake McClure with his basset hound Bummer by his side. She volunteers to adopt the kittens on the spot. She is happy to fulfill another promise to her girls. This surprises Jake who works with the local animal shelter treating animals preparing them for their forever homes. And Bummer in turn surprises everyone by instantly “adopting” the two golden tabbies and the twins too!
From then on, like it or not, Amy and Jake’s lives intersect with the “help” of Bummer and the twins. Soon Amy is working as a receptionist at Jake’s vet clinic. She also meets his internationally famous surgeon father. An orphan herself, she wonders at the coolness between Jake and his father. But Jake can’t figure out why his father has come home—at last—but for some unknown reason. Yet before love can bloom, family secrets and grudges must be unraveled. And Jake and Amy—both wounded by rejection—must work through a winter of heart-healing.
