This short story by H. G. Wells, first published in 1894 in the Pall Mall Budget, was included in The Stolen Bacillus and Other Incidents, his first collection of short stories published in 1895. The story is about a man looking for eggs of the Aepyornis, an extinct flightless bird, who spends two years aloe on a small island with an Aepyornis that has hatched.
