Throw a rock into the water and you know there will be ripples. But in deep water you have no idea where the rock will land, and you don't know how many ripples your ill considered throw will make, nor what effect they will have. My actions in starting an interspecies fighting tournament has had unforeseen outcomes, and the export of human culture, as well as human diplomatic efforts, has only made things more chaotic. Add to that some disappearances, lost colonies, missing ships, and some very nervous prey evolved civilizations, and you have a recipe for disaster. And so, once more into ...

Time marches on, life continues, the world spins, the uncaring Universe never noticed when one little dot stopped moving, nor one young girl got older, one family was wounded, or one confused and struggling alien tried to make sense of everything going on around him. I wish I could say all of my time on Earth was easy, a joyful time filled with light and games and happiness. But the reason all of those times where life was marvelous shone so brightly is precisely because there was shadow too. Some darker than others, I admit. What can anyone say about meeting a sibling you've forgotten that you even have? What do you say when they come to you for help? I didn't have any idea, that's for sure. Bau's arrival so soon after my recent victory in securing a long term stay on Earth, was nothing if not disruptive. Or so I thought at the time, but I had no idea how right I really was, 'disruptive' did not begin to cover it. Chaotic? Mad? Dangerous? All seemed better words. Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. ★★★★★ "An interesting take on humanities future!" - Reader Review ___ A fresh take on science fiction and a glimpse at humanity through the eyes of an alien who doesn't know what 'family' is, until he finds one! If a human starts spending more time with you and initiating physical contact, they have probably adopted you." What can anyone say about meeting a sibling you've forgotten that you even have? What do you say when they come to you for help? I didn't have any idea, that's for sure. Bau's arrival so soon after my recent victory in securing a long term stay on Earth, was nothing if not disruptive. Or so I thought at the time, but I had no idea how right I really was, 'disruptive' did not begin to cover it. Chaotic? Mad? Dangerous? All seemed better words. Bau's plea for help was not for her, but for 'her humans'. The surviving remnants of the people who once lived in Chicago, a forgotten people who ...

★★★★★ "An interesting take on humanities future!" - Reader Review ___ A fresh take on science fiction and a glimpse at humanity through the eyes of an alien who doesn't know what 'family' is, until he finds one! "Humans are the only known intelligent species to actively create 'Found Families' in the form of parents, children, siblings, and more. If a human starts spending more time with you and initiating physical contact, they have probably adopted you." These were the words that caught my ears when attending the most prestigious university in my quadrant as a minor in alien ...

What a great series!
Usually sci fi books are full of fighting and wars .There're not many about peoples lives. This are the stories I like best .So this is my kind of book. A great book the end of a great series. I enjoy all 8 of them.

A Great Story
I listened to the entire series and I enjoyed it. I came across the story on an HFY video on YouTube and found the books here. The narration got better over time. This last book was the best. This does not replace a great human narrator but it was sufficient and I appreciate that the books were narrated so quickly. I can remember having Alexa read my Kindle books to me and that was pretty bad. This was so much better. Overall the story was a great concept and truly inciteful. There were many things to dissect from human behavior to philosophy to morality. It was a good set of books to step out of ourselves and reflect on where we are and have hope for a future of what we could be. The concept of hope is even given much consideration in the books. It's a slice of life with many things to ponder and some good sci-fi topics. Give it a listen and enjoy.

It was a journey
Well... I have not, and don't know if I will, rated the others in the series as I listened to the whole series back to back in less then a week. the story wasn't perfect because if it was it would have been worse for it. This is by far one of my favorite series I have ever listened too, and I am so glad I listened to the first chapter on Youtube, and that lead me to find i, and the rest of the series,t here. My one and only complaint is that it ended, but it was the best ending in my opinion. And it makes me hope, likely after my lifetime, that something similar happens in the future. (Hopefully without World War 3)
