Although the political economy of Pakistan is facing multiple challenges, the country is also ripe to undergo a significant social and economic transformation. Pakistan now stands in a very comfortable position to meet the challenges it is facing, thanks to the inherent strengths of her economy and some fortuitous external circumstances which are strong enough to overcome her weaknesses and convert the threats posed by the external environment into opportunities. This book, part two of the series, is all about these challenges and the suggested plan of action to respond to these challenges. It has 13 chapters and 07 annexures dealing with different sectors and issues of the political economy of Pakistan. While the next chapter carries out the SWOT Analysis of the economy, and the challenges it faces, the next one charts a framework for responding to these challenges. Rest of the book explains in detail, the measures needed for implementing that plan of action There are six annexures at appropriate places in the book. Annexure A discusses the national interest of Pakistan while annexure B enumerates the seven challenges Pakistan is facing now and how to respond to them. Annexure C is about the civil service reforms in Pakistan, annexure D explains need and methodology of digitization of the public sector, annexure E discusses the main points of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor while the last annexure discusses the pros and cons of the 13th IMF program Pakistan has just signed. Because of these annexures, there is bound to be SOME repetition-my advance apologies!
