What was one of the most memorable moments of A Rabbi Looks at the Afterlife?

If I have to pick one moment of A Rabbi Looks at the Afterlife it would be the chapter on Near Death Experiences.

Which scene was your favorite?

Most of the Near Death Experiences (not the people who experienced Hell) had the calm, peaceful feeling that mirrors my own experience. It was interesting how so many people viewed so many different things like the woman who saw her father in a driving a wagon while other relatives were in front of it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A memorable, thought provoking movie!

Everyone should listen to this. You'll find that many ancient cultures believed and still do believe in some form of Heaven, Hell, and Near Death Experiences.

A look at Heaven and Hell from, not only a Biblical perspective, but also from a Messianic Jewish Rabbi's perspective. If you're not sure or doubt Heaven and Hell exist, please read this book.

Very Informative

What made the experience of listening to A Rabbi Looks at the Afterlife the most enjoyable?

Rabbi Bernis did his homework. I appreciated the Jewish knowledge he brought out. He did thorough research. Most of all, I believe he did his best to convince the reader / listener of their need for salvation through Jesus Christ and his atoning blood shed on Calvary. The story brings glory to God, and that is a huge plus in my eyes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Since this is not a fiction book, there are no "characters" per say, but my favorite story had to be the man in France who went down the hallway.

Have you listened to any of W.B. Ward’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have listened to W.B. Ward's other performances. This one does not disappoint. I believe he put his heart into the reading, as he used voice inflection and emotions that could not be written into the text, only felt. I do not think the author could have picked a better producer than W.B. Ward. I have listened to numerous works done by this narrator, and in my opinion, he is a master craftsman.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not want to turn the player off, but I had to break up the listening into three sessions as my time allowed. It was very interesting.

Any additional comments?

I think the author could have done better in two ways. One, I think if he believes in infallibility of scripture, that he should choose which translation to quote from. I do not believe all books that claim to be scripture are infallible. I think the reader would be less confused (if his offer of eternal life is the main concern) if he chose one Bible to read from. Second, I think the author used the same scriptures over and over when there are many more he could have used. It was a bit redundant, as well as recounting the six testimonies a second time.

I very rarely give a book 5 stars, even some of my favorites. However, in this case, I must make an exception. The author does a fantastic, well cited, dive into the question of heaven and hell. He is balanced and careful to draw from multiple sources, with views on both sides. I think everyone should read this book and carefully consider what is presented therein. I love the fact that this comes from both a Christian and Jewish perspective.

The narrator does a splendid job garnishing the text with voice inflection and character voices. Because of this, an already fascinating book comes alive and makes it almost irresistible to "put down." This is a must for any audiobook library!

Great Audio. Good support, multi-perspective

Loved all the external references and support. As a person who enjoys apologetic books, this was a fun listen. Some areas drag a bit and mad eme put the book on pause, but I was never disappointed when resuming. The audio version with W.B. Ward as the narrator was great.

I like how there is testimony from other books, biblical, cultural and historical support from multiple cultures, the testimony of living converts due to an NDE among the scientific, atheist and religious community. It truly views the subject from all sides. There is more documentation support in this book than most history books. I have not checked sources like most people don't look for copies of historical letters to back up a history book, however, Rabbi Bernis has a good track record in my opinion.

If someone does research his sources I would appreciate a note back.

I was completely mesmerized by the detail Rabbi Bernis went into in writing this book. He really tells it like it is, and backs up everything with Scripture.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Rabbi Looks at the Afterlife?

This is not just someones opinion of what happens next. Rabbi Bernis interviewed several people about their near death and after death experiences. I was at the bedside when my husband passed. He was a Christian and a firm believer. Nevertheless, it was his time to go. There were several things mentioned in the book that hit home with me in the following minutes. It made me feel like I wasn't just grief stricken and having imagined what I felt when what happened next.

What about W.B. Ward’s performance did you like?

I can't give enough accolades for the pronunciation and flow in which Mr. Ward narrated this book! I played and replayed many parts. He did an excellent job!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Read the Book, especially the words written in red.

Again, many props to Mr. Ward for his narration, and Rabbi Bernis for his research.

A Christian in Jewish Clothing

One of my biggest complaints regarding Messianic Jews is they frequently pass themselves off as Jews to convert Jews to Christianity. I have nothing personal against them, just be upfront about the fact that you are Jewish-flavored Christians rather than trying to be sneaky or covert so as to "convert" authentic Jews.

Amazon/Audible are particularly culpable, whether by ignorance or design (I expect by design since I brought this to their attention), of not letting Jewish customers know that a product is authored by a Messianic author before they buy the book/audiobook. Messianic Jews are not recognized as "real" Jews, but rather Christians in Jewish clothing. Having been made aware of this many times over, the only thing I can conclude is that this is a case of deliberate misrepresentation to get Jews, like myself, to buy a product they otherwise wouldn't if they were given the author's true bona fides,'

In case you haven't caught on, Jonathan Bernis is NOT a rabbi despite the word rabbi being in the title and being emblazoned across the top of the book. This is a misrepresentation because the title is deliberately worded so as to pull in Jews seeking spiritual guidance about end-of-life topics. Check it out yourself at the link below. Calling yourself a rabbi doesn't make you one; at best it shows you are a pastor masquerading as a rabbi and at worst and outright swindler.
