AI is not a good idea for audio books

I couldn't make it through the first story. The story line was ok, but AI doing the audio was TERRIBLE. It definitely sounded like a computer reading to you. No feeling whatsoever 😞

Could not do it!

I’m sorry, the narration of this book is horrible. I could not keep the characters separate as the narrators voice barely varied from character to character. I could not listen to it. It seemed like the story line may have been good, but I could not get there!

narration is mechanic, annoying, cannot pronounce words. breaks up sentences.
just can not tolerate.
I guess that is what you get for free.

Virtual Voice Killed It ( and not in a good way)

Don't authors listen to the Virtual Voice version before releaseing it? Is there no way for them to fix or choose how words are read? Virtual Voice absolutely slaughtered the pronunciation of too many words to overlook how it impacts the enjoyment of listening.


Taking place in Sugarplum Hallow, the name is mentioned enough that it is now an earworm hearing Shorgumplum Hallow.

Char said as if something is charred not short for Charlotte, Shar. Kali sounds like collie not Kale with both vowels being long.


Early in first chapter, "Is that you, live and in the flesh?" Live sounded like lived. In the book it is spelled correctly so it isn't a matter of a faulty manuscript being read as incorrectly spelled.

This is the equivalent of reading a book with poor editing: jarring to listen too.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Read the books instead of listening to them if you get as irritated as I do by these mispronounciations. You'll appreciate the writing better.

Virtual voice is not a good choice for this type of book. Would have enjoyed it more with an actual narrator(s).

The AI voice

Maybe I’m spoiled with these duel narrations from talented voice actors but I’ve listened to better AI’s in the past. Perhaps have a female and male AI narrating. I often got confused which character was speaking

The virtual voice was very difficult to get used to.

I did not enjoy the virtual voice. There were many words that were pronounced wrong due to the narrator not being able to anticipate the content (i.e. live and lIve, present and PREsent, "sugar" sounded like sooner. I prefer a live reader.

Sweet Christmas X 3

A lovely bundle of Christmas. The performance was OK. but didn't sound real enough, especially pronunciation. The stories were great.

if I could rate less than 1 star I would

this book was awful...made it through the first book but definitely not bothering with the 2nd two. absolutely horrible AI narration....even worse the AI speaks with a lisp....and routinely mispronounces common words. highly recommend that this is removed from Audible 's catalog...it's that bad.

Terrible AI voice!

I wasn’t a huge fan of the stories, but I could have liked them more if not for the terrible AI voice! Please don’t let this be the future of audio books!
