This is a dark and very spicy Red Riding Hood retelling in the Ruin World featuring an anti-hero, a strong heroine, and a humorous supporting cast. It is not necessary to have listened to the Ruin series to enjoy this installment. Check the website for TWs. This is an enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity story suitable for 18+. It's the first of a dualogy, ending on a cliffhanger.

The story line didn’t mesh with previous character development

The only consistent character was hadreal. Westin was not his normal self. I honestly couldn’t get past the obliviousness of the main character. Such a different path but similar story line to the other books. I just couldn’t get over the cruelty being shown to the young girl. Even the end was a plot twist that left me unhappy and felt like a big waste of time. There was a ton of spice but honestly it was borderline non consensual. The main character Aurelia was smart but clearly weak and oblivious to the realities of the culture she lived in. Even to the end. I loved the other books. I just don’t think Westin after being held captive in the demon kingdom would be that terrible. Hadreal was the best still.

As expected

Exactly what I expected and better. The only let down is that I have to wait, again, for the next book. *sigh*

The Queen does it again

A book that I didn’t know that I needed. Always liked Weston even though he pissed me off from time to time in Ruin series. Glad that he’s getting his own series. Love the heat between Weston and Aurelia. Then there’s Hadriel who doesn’t love him, some might see him as a fool but he’s a very insightful and protected individual.

There’s a reason it’s called Deliciously Dark Fairytales. If you’re looking for a clean sweet retelling of your favorite fairy tale, this is not for you!

Smut loving heathens, carry on. You will absolutely love this redo of the classic Little Red Riding Hood tale. Our Red is known as Aurelia and she is anything but weak and helpless. Our Big Bad Wolf is resident wolf shifter Weston.

Breene’s twist to this tale was *chef’s kiss*. I greatly enjoyed the castle staff. Hadriel was my absolute favorite *cheers!*

I love this entire series. I highly suggest it if you’re not faint of heart because these books will definitely get your heart pumping and your blood flowing to all the right areas if you know what I mean. 😉

The narration is *chef’s kiss* It’s dual narration and each narrator does a phenomenal job with the portrayal of all the characters.

A different take on a childhood story

I actually enjoyed this spin on red riding hood. Story took a little bit to build properly. Book ended on a cliffhanger and I’m hoping for another continuation of this story and these characters.

This is the first shifter book that refers to it as "knotting". And I've listened to some pretty erotic shifter books. These two books are great, but if you don't listen to the first four beforehand, you're really missing out on good back stories. Hated the cliffhanger on this book, so be prepared to immediately start the second.

Such a smart story and such heated intimacy

It was a while since I listened to a story and around middle of it, I could predict the ending until I came across this one. every damn episode I thought I knew what was going to happen and then Breene again twisted it.

A Cage of Crimson is the first book in a 2-book spinoff series in the Deliciously Dark Fairytales world (starts with A Ruin of Roses; not necessary to read before this, but is also excellent). This is a spicy red riding hood retelling told from multiple points of view.

In ACOC we follow Weston, the alpha wolf on a mission to bring down Granny’s drug operation, and Aurelia, the drug maker. Our favorite mediocre maid, Hadriel, is also along for the ride, bringing his special brand of hilarity and colorfulness with him. Weston and Aurelia are enemies, but, in a twist of fate, are also true mates. We follow along as Weston and his pack raid Aurelia’s village. The pack takes her prisoner with the intention of delivering her to the dragons for judgement. Aurelia believes she is magicless and is very naive to the world Outside her village. She doesn’t believe she is responsible for the destruction Weston and his pack claim her drugs have caused. Will she be proven right or will her eyes be opened? Will Weston give in to the true mate bond or will his duty prevail above all else? Will Hadriel’s clothes be covered in hidden dicks?

Once I picked this book up, I didn’t want to put it down! This was a wild ride and I loved every second of it! ACOC is spicy from the beginning; full of action, laughter, tears, light and deep feelings; has strong character and relationship (romantic and platonic) development; ends with a twist that will leave you staring at a wall wondering “WTF” while begging for more. I am very much looking forward to finding out what happens next for Weston and Aurelia!
