A brave offering of insight on a somewhat controversial topic delivered in an engaging, humorous, fun, yet empathetic way. I recommend this to those who can relate but don't have anyone to share these feelings with. I also recommend this to those who don't understand why someone would want to be child-free as this book offers various interviews with several different women's perspectives.

It's an honor...

It's an honor to be the first to review this courageous book, notwithstanding I'm a guy, and the target audience for this book is probably women. But just like the author, I knew in my early teens that I didn't want to parent any children my whole life & I've never changed my mind about that, though certain people had predicted that I would. Also, I'm the youngest in my family, just like many no-kids people, & my older brothers & sisters wanted kids, but I sure didn't. But need I point out that there's nothing in the marriage vows that binds anyone to procreation? When the vows say "to have & to hold" it doesn't mean to have & hold a baby. It means to have & hold each other, & I've heard that a baby can mess that up pretty bad. & if the concept of "passing on your genes" or "leaving a monument" holds absolutely no value for you, then congratulations, you're one of us. I'm glad I didn't father any children; it wouldn't have fit me well, like a round peg in a square hole. & a woman who doesn't want to be a mommy is certainly a rare & precious find for the man who doesn't want to be a daddy. Would that we all could be so lucky in love & find such an ideal match.

Throughout the book, you'll find yourself laughing, crying, and will come to a greater understanding of the child free lifestyle. Are these women just heathens going against nature? Absolutely not. You'll learn why many people are choosing to be child free and why they enjoy their current lifestyle. This book is a light read, often humorous in a relatable way, though a few chapters come with the heaviness of being judged by others in society. As a single mother, I appreciated that Ms. Hawkins relayed her message in a way that was not dismissive to those of us who choose to become parents, but instead was inclusive and understanding of all the hard work we do, too! This book is an excellent read for anyone who is considering getting child free or for those looking to learn more about those who do make this choice!
