JM Boice is a remarkable expositor. Judging by this Volume, he stands with the humble giants. I liked his unfliching approach to what many Christians find to be one of the most difficult and uncomfortable parts of the Bible. Having been exposed to other greats like D Martyn Lloyd-Jones (someone Boice often quotes and refers to), I found this first volume to be compelling listening. It is not often that I rewind a few times to listen to something I heard clearly the first time around, but I did that often. His commentary is also very personal; I felt he was speaking to *me* when repeatedly asking the question, when you die and God asks you, on what do you base (or claim) the right of entry to My Kingdom? There are few who can tell hard truths in a gentle, compassionate, but insistent manner. Dr Boice was such a man. I'm profoundly grateful for having had the privilege of listening to this book. I have a feeling this was only the first of several such "return visits" to this book.

A true story of the Commander and crew of a WWII submarine in the Pacific. It was one of the best tales I've ever listened to and I kept having to remind myself that this was non-fiction. If you do not mind going without some sleep, this is a book for you.

A Beautiful Exposition of a True Love Story

The book of Ruth is one of the shortest in the Bible; yet, also one of the most significant. In his inimitable style, John Piper keeps pulling surprises, beauty, examples of God's plan from before creation, and debunks "scriptural" attempts at dividing people by race, colour and even culture. In listening to this book, I was struck with wonder yet again at the "colourful" human genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a short book, well read, and leaves much food for thought, prayer, and thankfulness. Very highly recommended.

For some reason, I have grown to enjoy apocalyptic, dystopian stories. This one is different from others in the genre: it appears to be from a Christian point of view, but not the usual kind in that category. Not the end of days, nor premillenial. Although very different, I suspect that if you enjoyed the Cheveis Trilogy by Bryan Litfin, you will enjoy this too.

The series has enough violence and to spare, but in the first 3 books, no crude language or swearing. It is refreshing to know that one can write a good story without littering the dialogue with crudity, blasphemy and a demonstration of a limited vocabulary.

The narrators occasionally mispronounce words - jarringly so - but not, I'm glad to say, often enough to spoil the story.

As to the rest of the series? I'm impressed enough to carry on. There are several books in the series - if memory serves, about 11.

I read this book many years ago and now that I am practically unable to read, listening to it was a privilege. At times I felt angry; then I saw that I was one of the ungracious ones being spoken about. The author manages to give a peek (more than enough to make the tears flow and soften this old heart) of that amazing grace that caused the Lord Jesus to die on a cross for me... Me! A profound book and it deserves a place on every bookshelf /e-reader or audiobook player. It will soon become tattered with use...

A Christian classic ruined by the performer

This book is a must-read for Christians. Yet, how to review a wonderful book by a devout author when its performance is badly spoiled by the narrator? Eventually, I concluded that my rating "overall"and what Audible, strangely, calls "Story", ought not to be spoiled by the "Performance". The latter drove me to give up listening to the book long before the end. The publisher could surely have done much, much better. Thus, for now, I'll stick to the printed version - until someone is found to do justice to an excellent work.

A well written story, with the potential to become a classic, along with Aubrey, Hornblower, Ramage, Kydd, etc.
My only (minor) gripe is that the narrator (a favourite of mine) did not seem to be quite at his (usually stellar) best.

This is the first of CS Lewis's "SF" trilogy. It remains fresh and gripping, even after having read and listening to it many times. I cannot recommend it too highly.

Good story and plot, but marred by a weakish ending. For all that, certainly worth a listen. Liked narrator and performance.

As the owner of several versions and renditions of the Bible in audio format, I must say that this rendition of the NIV by David Suchet is by far the best to which I have listened. Lest I be misunderstood, I'm not just referring to an ex excellent performance. - which it certainly is - but rather the way in which this rendition "grabs" me every time I listen to it. The way in which the Bible is read speaks to my heart in a way no other audio performance has managed to do. Never before have I been able to listen to the Bible for hours at a time. I just cannot get enough of the Word in this version. As a result of result, I'm constantly noticing things I've never picked up before. This is definitely not for anyone looking for a quick sound byte or a verse or two a day. I cannot recommend this audiobook and its narrator more highly!
