This is driving me nuts!!
Revisado: 10-27-24
I really enjoy Frieda. I’ve ready probably a dozen of her books. But this is infuriating me. What an unbelievably stupid situation to get into. It’s not good when you feel your protagonist deserves what’s happening to her. OMG. I think I have to stop listening. Ughhh

Historia
Thirty years ago, Nicola Watson lived with her parents and older brother in a respectable suburb. Now a successful lawyer in the city, with a life poles apart from her dark beginnings, Nicola has returned home for her mother’s funeral. All Carol wanted was to protect her children, but escaping her husband was only the beginning of the story. And when Nicola learns the truth of what her mother did, it will change everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. A gripping, emotional story of family secrets, and the strength of a mother’s love in the darkest times.

NOT a mystery/thriller
Revisado: 08-24-23
I am a big fan of S.E. Lynes and have read almost of all of her books. This is a fine book with decent characters and great narration. HOWEVER, don’t choose this if you are looking for a mystery to unravel. There’s nothing unraveling here. There is a reveal at the end but it isn’t something very meaningful to anyone except a character that you don’t know enough about to feel that much for.
This shouldn’t marketed with the “absolutely gripping” headline that we mystery lovers have come to recognize (ad nauseum). It’s not intensely gripping. Nor is it particularly dark. It’s a decent family drama with a minor reveal at the end.

Important to know before you read (for some)
Revisado: 07-29-20
What I’m about to say is a minor spoiler - i say “minor” in that it happens very early on and is the main plot. But it’s not in the book descriptions or some reason. I feel it’s an important thing to know and I would not have purchased this book if I had known beforehand. I’m trying to decide now whether to finish it as I’m invested. Anyway read at your own risk
SPOILER
This is a book is about a baby who dies and the grief of a mother. If you feel this would be traumatic to read, please consider before purchasing. So far it is well written and performed and my rating is based only on what I’ve heard.
I hope this was helpful.

UGH - didn't notice it was abridged....
Revisado: 10-12-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
NO - giving up. The abridged version leaves out so much stuff I can't even follow it! Massively huge plot holes. I can't stand abridged versions but I bought this on my iphone and didn't notice - so my bad. If it could be followed it would be ok...but when one character complains about being set up and the key info about incriminating evidence simply wasn't there I couldn't take it any more. Seems like a good story and the narrator was great. I know some people like abridged versions - but if you're going to put them out and charge money for them PLEASE at least make them coherent!
