A tragedy brought to life in a compelling story
Revisado: 10-02-23
Having never heard of the events portrayed in this story, I did a little research before listening, and was heartbroken at the tragedy created by Georgia Tann and the Tennessee Children Society. The author created a compelling story that showed how even in the worst of circumstances love of family will endure.

Trash and vulgar!
Revisado: 06-13-23
I tolerated the story for 45 minutes, hoping that it would approach the storyline. Once the author got to that storyline, it digressed. The language is vulgar. If I could return this book I would. I would never recommend it to any person. I was hoping for an enjoyable and easy listen on my way to and from work, and I found myself irritated by the language and discussion of topics that were inappropriate.

Funny is just a small part!
Revisado: 02-10-23
This book was an amazing telling of a painful life sprinkled in with the joy and healing power of animals. I don’t know who saved who, whether it was the animals that saved the family or the family that saved the animals. But does it really matter in the end! I wholeheartedly recommend this book and have done so to family and friends. It will not disappoint.

An Applachian Revival
Revisado: 02-29-20
Francine Rivers once again weaves an amazing story of pain, struggle and redemption. Having worked in the Appalachian areas for many years, I can say that the cadence of the narrator and the characters adherence to their old ways, still holds true to this day. The salvation of many and the pure representation of the gospel of Jesus Christ was so pure and strong it brought me to tears. I love hearing how the characters readily accepted the revelation that no man has the power to abolish sins. This book should be on one's list of titles that are a "must-listen".

Historia
A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want - money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist - an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Masterpiece - A story of God’s grace and redemption
Revisado: 01-22-20
This Is the first book I’ve completed by Francine Rivers. This book is about God’s masterpiece and this book is itself a masterpiece. The complex story of two individuals who seem to be from two different worlds is well thought out, emotional and true to life. I highly recommend this book. I found myself sitting in my driveway not wanting to go inside just to listen to this story.

Good story but not as strong as Chronicles of the Kings
Revisado: 10-11-19
I had listened to the whole series of Chronicles of the Kings andI was excited to see you this next series. The narrator did a fantastic job again. It was a good story but for me this one was based more in fiction and less in facts. The backstory, which was not heavily based on scripture, took a really long time to develop. It was only the last few hours that got back to the biblical text. I debated while listening to the story whether to turn it off at some point not because of the quality but because I love the fact that Austen’s stories are very much aligned with biblical passages. I plan to listen to the next one because overall these are really great stories

Less fluff and more intrigue
Revisado: 09-27-18
I almost did not get this book based on some of the other reviews. Many of the other reviews said this book was too dark. It was not. Ms. Polifax is a CIA operative. CIA operatives do end up in situations that often involve great harm to themselves. This is not the first story in the series that touched on this. I would say this book is well worth the listen. It it is definitely a bit different than the other books in the series but still has the same characteristically quirky but skillful Mrs pollifax.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

A thoughtful yet technical rendering of a how one persons life changed science
Revisado: 09-08-18
The author did an amazing job of a weaving together a story of pain and suffering with the technical details of how the product of that pain has saved the lives of millions of people. The level of care and technical detail of this story will hold the attention of any reader or listener to the very end.

The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Crew come to life!
Revisado: 03-09-18
What did you love best about The Boys in the Boat?
I have known of the sport but have never known about how it worked. The author strung together a fascinating story that brought to life both the intricate details of the members of that winning Olympic team as well as the fine details of the sport.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Boys in the Boat?
I enjoyed each moment especially the many come behind victories and the way the story was told about the building of a powerhouse sport on the West Coast of the US.
Have you listened to any of Edward Herrmann’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
All parts of it were moving.

Historia
Around noon on January 15, 1919, a group of firefighters were playing cards in Boston's North End when they heard a tremendous crash. It was like, "a roaring surf," one of them said later. Like, "a runaway two-horse team smashing through a fence," said another. A third firefighter jumped up from his chair to look out a window - "Oh my God!" he shouted to the other men, "Run!" A 50-foot-tall steel tank filled with 2.3 million gallons of molasses had just collapsed on Boston's waterfront, disgorging its contents as a 15-foot-high wave of molasses that at its outset traveled at 35 miles an hour.

Revisado: 01-01-17
Who would have thought that a story about molasses from 1919 would be relative to the geopolitical landscape of 2016? This story is intriguing and touches on several variables that are currently playing out in these United States. This book is a great story and a good telling of it.
