Historia
At the height of the Cold War, JFK risked committing the greatest crime in human history: starting a nuclear war. Horrified by the specter of nuclear annihilation, Kennedy gradually turned away from his long-held Cold Warrior beliefs and toward a policy of lasting peace. But to the military and intelligence agencies in the United States, who were committed to winning the Cold War at any cost, Kennedy's change of heart was a direct threat to their power and influence.

Best account of the assassination thus far
Revisado: 11-14-22
I have many books about the JFK assassination in my library. Earlier accounts of that historic event relied on speculation as supported by sketchy evidence. Douglass does not offer speculation but facts supported in most cases by two or more witnesses. Any individual truly interested in the events of 22 Nov 1963 is doing themselves a disservice if they do not read this book.

Historia
Russia's new ballistic missile submarine, Yuriy Dolgorukiy, is being deployed on its first patrol while America's newest fast-attack submarine, North Dakota, is assigned to trail it and collect intel. As the Russian submarine heads under the polar ice cap, its sonar readings reveal the trailing American sub and cause the Russians to begin a radical evasive maneuver. This, however, fails, and the submarines collide, resulting in damage that sends both to the bottom.

A Ripping Yarn
Revisado: 09-13-22
As a former submarine sailor I am partial about stories regarding same. Campbell has done his research well and has mastered the submarine jargon almost perfectly. I saw 'almost' because either the nomenclature has changed since I left the service or Campbell is minutely in error about a few niggling details but hardly enough to detract from the story or damage credibility. And what a story! I couldn't stop listening. The story made me proud to have been part of the silent service. Carry on, Rick Campbell.

Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Andy Serkis is the cat's pajamas.
Revisado: 07-14-22
Andy Serkis established the new gold standard in reading Tolkien. All of his voice characterizations are spot on and thoroughly believable. I've read The Hobbit 60 or 70 times. Mr. Serkis will be my guide to Midle Earth from now on.

Historia
Poopie Suits & Cowboy Boots: Tales of a Submarine Officer During the Height of the Cold War, now in its fifth edition since 2017, has earned a popular place in modern submarine literature for its engaging style and pacing. Set in the throes of the Cold War during the Nixon administration, the story follows the journey of Frank Hood through training and eventual deployment as a junior officer aboard a fast-attack submarine (USS Seahorse [SSN-669]) based out of Charleston, South Carolina.
