Hooked by the First Line!

I was expecting a slow burn but never once was I bored! Every moment of this book had me on the edge of my seat! The world building is fantastic, the storyline was incredibly addictive. The characters were a little cliche but the storyline made up for it. Not to mention that ending had me screaming! I can't wait for the next one to come out in a few months!

Reads Like a Poorly Written Wattpad Fanfic

The character development is non existent and uses the stereotypical "because they're mates" excuse for the protagonist's 180 personality switch.

The "mate" in question has the personality of every other male like him ever written. Nothing about him makes him interesting or makes me want to know more. There was potential, but it was tossed asside for stereotypical bs.

There are parts of this book that have potential to be such a great tool for creativity but tropes always seem to take hold. I'm exceptionally disappointed that the author let tropes and stereotypes take over the story.

Too many Pov switches.

I love the main plot, but the pov switches are too frequent and at least one of them doesn't seem to correlate to the main plot.

Love the Performance

I loved Twilight in high school but I've since grown out of it and I can see all the red flags in the relationship between Bella and Edward. However, after waiting over 10 years believing that I'd never see it I've found myself beyond excited. I remember in 2007 when she said Midnight Sun would never be finished because of the leak. I'm so glad that I get to revisit the story that opened up the world of Fantasy for me.

Reads like a bad fanfiction

The narration moves to new characters all the time and there is almost no connection between them. Who are these people and why do I need to care? There is no explanation for anything that is considered "normal" in this world. Would not recommend it to anyone.

Good Plot but Weak Writing

I loved the plot and the Polyamorous relationship but the writing reminds me of a fanfiction. The main character follows a few common tropes but the biggest is how easily she accepts the poly nature of things. I find it extremely unrealistic as a poly minded woman myself. Our society doesn't accept polyamorous relationships well, even if it is more common in her world.

I also think that the male narrator needs to work on emotions when he reads. The way he spoke didn't match the way the characters felt and they all sounded the same and peppy.

Not What I Expected!

This book was nothing like I expected. It was much better! I was expecting cliches and awful stereotypes, and don't get me wrong there are some, but not the ones I was expecting. It was so refreshing! it reminds me a little bit of the Mercy Thompson novels. This was an amazing read and I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a good book.

DELIGHTFUL!

I love Oberon in the books and this story is just perfect! He has such a wonderful voice in the books and the story being narrated by him makes it so wonderful. He's hilarious and Luke Daniels does a wonderful job giving Oberon the best voice! Short and sweet and definitely worth a listen!

Worth the Build Up

When I first starting listening to this book I was turned off by all the exposition. It felt long winded and held very little excitement for me. After a while, I gave up on it and listened to other books. Recently, I restarted it and finished it. Boy was I surprised! The ending makes all the build up and exposition worth it and it really is a great listen! Paul Boehmer is a perfect narrator and both Holly Black and Cassandra Clare did a wonderful job with this story. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series!
