Great story, great performance
Revisado: 04-01-25
Overall a great story! Could’ve done with less poetry, but it didn’t take away from the storyline, which was a “page turner”.

Historia
From across the sea, they came by the thousands, escaping war and poverty in southern China to seek their fortunes in America. Converging on the enormous western worksite of the Transcontinental Railroad, the migrants spent years dynamiting tunnels through the snow-packed cliffs of the Sierra Nevada and laying tracks across the burning Utah desert. Their sweat and blood fueled the ascent of an interlinked, industrial United States. But those of them who survived this perilous effort would be pushed to the margins of American life and then to the fringes of public memory.

Lost history
Revisado: 03-18-25
An extremely heartbreaking lost history of the railroad Chinese, the people who literally helped America become a great commerce with blood, sweat, and tears, only to have been forgotten and disenfranchised. Excellent storytelling.

Great material, sound effects unnecessary
Revisado: 11-05-24
If you are a fan of the Harry Potter books, you will absolutely love diving back into the storylines and nostalgia of the original series, and appreciate the books coming alive again. I TRULY enjoyed JK’s footnotes, they were an added bonus. The only thing I did not appreciate were several moments when the sound effects overtook the sound of the male narrator, especially when the book content is so well written and tastefully done, the sound effects add nothing. There were a couple times that one of the female narrator’s (not Lynch) mispronounced a few common words, so I hope I understood what was being said. Rather than listen again, I hope to purchase the book in print instead (if it’s ever released). Good job JK!

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

I bought 4 more copies!
Revisado: 02-24-24
I love this book so much, I bought 4 more physical copies to hand out to family and friends!
I’m not a doctor, but I believe that everyone should do research and not believe everything they hear at face value. That’s one of the reasons I love this book. Not only does he encourage you to do research, but he gives you the tools and resources for where to start. I’m doing my homework doc! Several ideas he’s mentioned, I’ve either wondered myself, proven myself, or at least resonated with; so now he’s given me much more to consider. I want EVERYONE I care about to read this and at least give the ideas some thought. They are sensible, so I expect they’ll agree with most of it. If you’re considering this book, just read it! At the very least, the doc has a sense of humor. Also, the speaker did well, he had good comedic timing.

Historia
Wildflower is a portrait of Drew's life in stories as she looks back on the adventures, challenges, and incredible experiences of her earlier years. It includes tales of living on her own at 14 (and how laundry may have saved her life), getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross-country road trip, saying good-bye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that have led her to the successful, happy, and healthy place she is today.

An easy read, Drew was very animated. I know it’s not a life story but it’s enough to share who she is and why she is the way that she is. I’m glad I got to know her a little better - an awesome and amazing human being!!

Historia
When The Real Housewives of New York City hired its first black cast member after more than 13 years on the air, attorney, speaker, and journalist Eboni K. Williams knew that the public would consider her a diversity hire. But instead of accepting the label, Williams re-envisioned her role as a “Diversity Higher,” an opportunity to prove the significance of Black excellence in the workspace and in society at-large. In this book, she shares all the benefits and advantages that have helped her and many others historically reach great heights in their careers and beyond.

Black Power Motivation
Revisado: 04-17-23
This is definitely a black power type of book. I don’t typically need or want to focus on that subject, as I just do my best everyday and let the work speak for itself. So if you like Black Power motivational speaking, this book is for you. I appreciated the insight about RHONY (which brought me here), would’ve liked more, and I LOVED nearly all of Eboni’s quick witty phrases. She is one of the best speakers I’ve heard in my lifetime, and I’ve heard at least 3 POTUS on several occasions (live and in-person). She’s better than ALL. If I had a goal to be a great speaker, I would just study her work. That being said, for this audible (like many I listen to), I did increase the playback speed. ;) I will forever remember and quote her affirmative action comeback, one of my favorite parts in the book (Chapter: Everything). I hope to see more work from her that is a little lighter, as that’s my preference following a 12-hour work day, 5 days a week. Would recommend the book.
