Heartwarming story, okay narrator
Revisado: 02-02-25
Story was great, definitely recommend the read. The narrator, however, was okay. Worst Louisiana accent I’ve ever heard though. Sounded like a drunk Frenchman (and not in a good way). Grew up in the south with plenty of friends from Louisiana, none of them sound like that.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Honestly the best book I’ve ever listened to. The production was unbelievable and all of the voice actors were fantastic. Truly the best. I felt like I could see everything and the music was amazing.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

I couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 10-19-23
I try and find entertaining audiobooks for my drive to and from work (30-45 minutes depending on traffic) and I (usually) adhere to my one rule: don’t listen outside of the car. I want the books to last as long as possible so my drives aren’t dull. Unfortunately for me, I would get home and I couldn’t turn it off. I had to know what was going to happen next in this beautifully written Zott universe. I’ve already convinced three of my coworkers to read it as well.
Bonnie Garmus, you wrote a hell of a book.

Revisado: 03-12-21
It took 9 chapters to do 1 scene. The ending left you wondering what happened. There was no ending. The heroine is no McGuyver. I don’t recommend this book.

Why did the author change the Narrator?
Revisado: 07-04-19
Why???? I’m going to have read the book OMG😩 because I really loved the first book. I have been waiting to see if there would be a follow up. You always wonder what happens to the main characters. Karen Peak did a FABULOUS job with the accents and making the characters come alive. Tell me what woman didn’t want Nick to talk to her. This new narrator ruins the whole book. Bland. Sending audio book back.
