Historia
Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now. Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. So she sends an SOS to the only person she trusts . . .

Fabulous narration for a great mystery novel

A different twist from the Thursday book club series, loved the characters but what really made this so engaging was the narration - spot on!

Loved this second in the sequel of adventurous seniors tackling murder mysteries. I read the first book so wasn’t sure how the narration would be, but I was pleasantly surprised! Excellent performance.

Historia
In this masterful debut, Martin Clark proves to be the heir apparent of great Southern raconteurs and the envy of more seasoned novelists as he takes us on a frantic tour of the modern South. Hung over, beaten by the unforgiving sun, bitter at his estranged wife, and dreading the day's docket of petty criminal cases, Judge Evers Wheeling is in need of something on the morning he's accosted by Ruth Esther English.

Good yet bizarre meandering novel
Revisado: 08-17-24
There’s a lot of partaking in pot in this weird legal/mystery novel, and honestly, it might help to join the characters to fully follow along! But I thoroughly enjoyed it, as odd as it was. Great character development, lots of attention to ordinary details, raw emotions, trippy adventure, and courtroom antics, which I always love.

Historia
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

Tedious Christian fiction
Revisado: 06-12-24
The protagonist leans into her chats with god to guide her, which is fine if that’s your bag, but got a bit exhausting here. And she is always running. Not figuratively, but literally across the mansion, down hallways, and invariably always ends up hitting a wall, a lurking man, something. It happened so many times that I found myself saying, “Just stop running already.”

Wonderful stories & pitch perfect!
Revisado: 03-02-24
Really enjoyed these 3 murder mysteries, great character development, excellent narrator. I saw the other reviews about the author poking fun of American tourists - anyone who has lived or traveled overseas knows that this is 100% warranted! And it was funny! Looking forward to more from this author.

Historia
Budapest, 1952. When Katalin and her father, Márton, are woken by the ringing of the doorbell in the dead of night, it can mean only one thing. The Secret Police have come to arrest him on charges of subversion. But Katalin knows her father is innocent. In a communist society where ordinary people live in fear of the dreaded Secret Police, suspicion and betrayal are rife. While Márton endures the injustice of being wrongly accused, Katalin must find out who among her friends and acquaintances she can truly trust.

A timely listen given the war in Ukraine
Revisado: 01-30-24
I grew up in Budapest when it was still behind the Iron Curtain but I was too young to have experienced the revolution of 1956. This book really personalized that era, and should be required listening for anyone who wants to better understand the plight of Ukrainians today. For visual references, I suggest the book “Cry Hungary! Uprising 1956” by Reg Gadney. The narrator’s excellent pronunciation of Hungarian words was really lovely, despite the heart-wrenching content.
