Zach always thought Fox Mulder looked cool in his navy windbraker with “FBI” emblazened in gold on the back, and for a long time saw himself following in his footsteps—not necessarily investigating the paranormal (if that were the case Zach would have been more of a Peter Venkman)—but definitely donning the jacket and a shoulder holster every day, flashing his badge and using his special agent status to take down bad guys. Zach is not sure why that very achievable dream never materialized, but at a certain point in his education he knew he was destined to become, not a gun-toting law enforcer, but a wordsmithing legal advocate. Zach is a lawyer. Zach has always enjoyed stringing several words together to form a sentence people might enjoy reading and has found an outlet for his writing in law journals, personal newsletters, personal and professional blogs, and various other written media outlets. But until recently, he had never written an entire book. Just a few years into Zach's career as a civil litigator, he heard about a teaching opportunity at UNLV for their paralegal program. Intrigued, he applied. Four years later, still practicing the law full time and teaching on the side, Zach found himself writing what would become his first full-length book: Dumb Criminals and Overeager Cops: A Paralegal’s Guide to Criminal Law and Procedure. It is principally written for paralegals taking a criminal law and procedure course, but he wrote it in a way that anyone looking to learn more about substantive and procedural law would enjoy it and find it valuable. You’ll have to let him know. Over a decade into his career as a trial lawyer, Zach sold his practice to focus on a passion and talent he had been developing the last couple years of his litigation career: helping people keep more of their money by reducing their tax burden and through asset protection planning. He started a law firm, The Fortune Law Firm, for that purpose. His second book, Unshackled: How to Escape the Chains of Conventional Wisdom that Keep You Poor, pulls back the curtain to expose misconceptions and myths (and untruths) about how money works to educate the 99% on the tax-reduction and investment strategies that the 1% have been using for generations. When Zach is not writing or running his law firm, he is traveling with his wife and four kids, doing an escape room, or both. He is an avid Photoshop user, recovering grammarian (it really is too much of a burden), and veritable handyman. He also loves a good epic fantasy novel and is a sucker for a good clean movie.
