William D. Harpine is Professor of Communication Emeritus at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where he taught communication for 12 years and served as department chair for 9 years. He was previously on the faculties of the University of Akron, the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and Iowa State University. He holds a Ph.D. in speech communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. William D. Harpine has contributed articles to scholarly journals in communication, and is a past member of the Legislative Assembly of the National Communication Association and a past Chair of the Argumentation and Forensics Division of the National Communication Association. He has also held office in the Association for Communication Administration. He plays classical guitar.
