Steve Whittaker is Professor of Human Computer Interaction at the University of California at Santa Cruz where he studies how technology is affecting our everyday lives, as well as developing new tools to help manage our information, collaborations and emotions. He has won numerous awards for his research including Fellow of the Association of Computational Machinery as well as a Lifetime Research Achievement Award for contributions to Human Computer Interaction. He is Editor of the prestigious journal Human Computer Interaction, and holder of over 50 scientific patents. Prior to becoming an academic he worked in technology research for AT&T, IBM and HP. His work has been covered by the New York Times, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and the BBC, and published in scientific journals including Nature.
