Driver Doug, aka Douglas Meriwether, has been a transit operator since 1998 with the SFMTA. He has been asked countless times to write a book about what its like to be a bus driver in San Francisco. A question he is frequently asked: "How long have you been driving?" "Since about 5 this morning." Laughter. "Oh you mean how long I been at this job! Since December of 1998, and boy are my and legs stiff!” Getting used to the visceral daily flow of humanity at the front door of an electric trolley bus is not unlike a door greeter at a Zen center.
