Lillah Lawson has been writing since she was 8 years old, when she won a short story contest at her elementary school. The story was about a Princess who gets tired of waiting for the Prince to show up and saves herself. Once she saw her words printed in the local newspaper, she knew she wanted to be a writer. Lillah Lawson is the author of her debut southern gothic, Monarchs Under the Sassafras Tree (2019; nominated for Georgia Author of the Year 2020); So Long, Bobby (February 2023; nominated for Georgia Author of the Year 2024); The Dead Rockstar Trilogy (’20-’24); and Tomorrow & Tomorrow with Lauren Emily Whalen (October 2023). Two novels: Doomed Girls of Jefferson (January 2025) and The Vamp (October 2025) are set to release next year. Lillah was a recipient of the UGA Willson Center/Flagpole Magazine’s Micro-Fellowship for her short story Shoofly (2020). Her horror short The Lady and the Tall Man was published in the Shiver Anthology (Nico Bell) in 2021. Her essay A Last Blood Benediction: Anne Rice, Type O Negative and Religious Imagery in Vampire Lore appeared in Pop Culture & Theology Magazine in January 2022, and was chosen as one of their five best pieces of the year. Her story Burn the Witch appeared in the Stoker-nominated anthology Chromophobia, in 2022. Another story, Oblong Objects in the Mirror (Are Closer than they Appear) appeared in the Aseptic and Faintly Sadistic Anthology by Cosmic Horror Monthly in May 2023. Her latest, a historical true crime piece A Close Shave with Death: The Framing of Henry Drake appeared in Scalawag Magazine in August 2023. Her story Ghost will appear in the upcoming anthology And One Day We Will Die: Stories Based on the Music of Neutral Milk Hotel (November 2024). Lillah enjoys writing across genres, specializing in historical fiction, southern gothic, and horror. She also writes a monthly column for her local newspaper. In addition to writing, Lillah works at a non-profit, is a genealogist pursuing her BA in History and English Literature, and proudly serves as secretary on her local library’s Board of Trustees. By day she works at a local non-profit. An avid music lover, she’s happiest at metal shows. She lives just outside of Athens, Georgia, with her husband, teenager and two fur friends.
