Janice Jones grew up an, adopted, only child in Celina, Ohio in the 1950s and '60s, and lived in the big white house on Main Street with the attached doctor's office. Dr. Beare’s Daughter: Growing Up Adopted, Adored, and Afraid—her memoir of that time—is her fourth published book. In 1990, Macmillan published her young adult novel, Secrets of a Summer Spy. It has been updated and re-released in September 2024. In 2002, her novel, Cousin Feely, won the EPIC award for best mainstream novel published in electronic format only. Creative Learning Press published Creating A Page Turner: A Helpbook for Young Writers, which was sold to public schools as part of the Language Arts Curriculum. Jones has had a career as a freelance writer and an in-house editor for two publishing houses. She invented a way to use jigsaw puzzles to teach reading skills and strategies to children. She recently created her own imprint, Lou-Jan Press, to publish her memoir and other writings. Her hobbies are gardening, e-bike riding, sewing, singing, and playing guitar, harmonica, keyboard, and cajun accordion with other amateur musicians. Above all else, she values truth and connection to other people and the world at large.
