Welcome to my author page and thank you for your visit. I am the author of the award-winning Greg Geldard series, a collection of murder mysteries set in the picturesque landscapes of rural Norfolk. My stand-alone thriller, 'Milestones' won the Page Turner Award 2024 for best book in the crime genre and I have also published three books for children who love animals. Writing and reading have always held a special place in my life. I was the child who was sent to friends' parties with the twin instructions 'Don't forget to thank your hostess. And don't pick up a book and start reading!' But for a long time the other love of my life - animals - took priority. My first career was in animal welfare and farming. I have been both farmer and agricultural policy adviser. I bred dogs, sheep and alpacas, raised calves, negotiated on behalf of the UK in international forums, specialised in emergency response, and even got paid to eat KitKats while on secondment to Nestle Rowntree. Following early retirement, I chaired an NHS Trust, was a volunteer Covid vaccinator, worked on animal welfare initiatives and sailed the Norfolk Broads, before taking a course in crime writing offered by the National Centre for Writing in collaboration with the University of East Anglia. So I've ended up back where I started, with books: proving the truth of my grandmother's maxim that 'You can do anything, if you try hard enough.' Throughout the series, Greg Geldard has evolved and grown alongside the stories. As some of you have spotted, Greg is not pre-eminently the central character in Secret Places. However, as the stories progressed, he and other characters took on lives of their own, to the point where I began to feel more like their narrator than their creator. It's a strange sensation! I live in Norfolk, nestled between the picturesque Broads and the stunning coastline. My partner, Gary, and I share our home with a menagerie of two dogs, two cats, two hens, and a rabbit named Hero.
