Heather Anderson grew up in rural Kentucky with four other siblings. She is second in line with one older brother, the eldest of four girls. Though both of her parents are nurses, she never considered a career in the medical field. Quite honestly, the sight of blood makes her queasy. Growing up, her dreams included graduating college and marrying a good Christian boy. Little did she know that God would introduce her to her future husband in high school at the age of sixteen. She was introverted, and he was a lively star athlete. Though they were different in many ways, one thing was the same, their love for the Lord and each other. At the age of twenty, Josh and Heather got married on May 31, 2003. Three days after their wedding, the Houston Astros drafted Josh in the 4th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball draft. Together, they embarked on a professional baseball journey through the minor leagues and eventually the major leagues. Josh played baseball for the Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and the Kansas City Royals. Throughout Josh’s professional career, Heather remained behind the scenes. Her role included attending games, packing, moving, unpacking, and being a support system for Josh. She never saw herself as one who would have her own career. But God had other plans. When He called Josh away from his dream, they found themselves at home with little direction as to what they should pursue. It was during this time that the Lord called Heather to write. She had no idea how to accomplish such a feat and worked on her story for the next several years amidst returning to college to finish her degrees and become a certified teacher. Later her educational path led her to become an instructional coach at Pulaski Elementary School in Somerset, Kentucky. However, between juggling her career and raising kids, Heather never forgot her commitment to finish her book. In 2021, she became one of 100 participants in Lysa Terkeurst’s Book Proposal Bootcamp. This experience propelled her to complete her first nonfiction manuscript. Today, Heather's book Strangely Dim has been published to show Christians that being separated from their dream doesn’t mean they have separated from God. Jesus says that a kernel of wheat must fall to the ground and die before it can produce many seeds (John 12:24). In her book, Heather pulls back the curtains of her life and invites readers to share in the experience of dying to themselves to be a vessel God can use. Despite the pain that Christians endure in this process, their devotion to the Lord is what matters. Great is their reward!
