William Henry Forester was born in 1950 in the coastal town of Inverness, Scotland. As the son of a fisherman, his early life was intertwined with the sea, rocky cliffs, and ancient tales. In 1968, when he was just eighteen, a twist of fate led him to board the ship 'Celtic Maiden' bound for America. Life in Maine was not easy initially. The cultural difference, the harshness of Maine coastal winters and the lack of close family was difficult, but he found solace in the similarities between Scotland and Maine; both places were shaped and nurtured by the sea. The coastlines of Maine, with their jagged rocks, thick mists, and lighthouses, reminded him of Scotland. This inspired him to begin writing poetry. Forester’s poems beautifully blend Scottish, Irish, and American elements, and he writes extensively about life in Maine.
