Dr. Sharona Johnson is a prolific writer who is well known and published in nursing literature, predominantly in peer-reviewed journals. She is faculty at East Carolina University College of Nursing, and practices as a Nurse Practitioner at Brody School of Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. She serves as an officer for the local chapter of the American Nephrology Nurses Association and on multiple boards in her community, including the Center for Family Violence Prevention and the East Carolina University Board of Visitors. Dr. Johnson works full-time at a large academic medical center in eastern North Carolina, where she oversees the practice of other Advanced Practice Providers. She attributes her journey to success to her maternal grandmother’s guidance throughout her life, as well as the sacrifices made by her sixteen-year-old mother. Dr. Johnson has been married for thirty-five years and references her marriage, which benefited from her grandmother's advice in years past—in this book. Her daughters recount that the best part of their lives was when their maternal grandmother moved to North Carolina to live with them. Although their grandmother was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and underwent dialysis and kidney transplantation, the five years she spent with her granddaughters before her death allowed them to make memories family members continue to laugh about and cherish. Dr. Johnson hopes to continue this legacy of life and wisdom transference from grandmother to granddaughter with Izabella, her granddaughter.
