C.L.R. Draeco is a writer, university professor, and advertising executive whose greatest childhood celebrity hero was Neil Armstrong. That didn’t lead to an early ambition of becoming an astronaut, but it did fuel a deep interest in reading about all things outer space. The dream of becoming an astronomer germinated—but didn’t take root. This was back in the 1960s, when science wasn’t seen as a career path that “paid off.” The love of reading, however, kindled a different passion: writing. And though that wasn’t seen as a lucrative career back then either (J.K. Rowling was probably just beginning to learn the alphabet at the time), Draeco locked in on becoming a writer as an end goal from as early as third grade. Though a journalism graduate, Draeco ended up flourishing in the advertising world instead—a world that granted far more elbow room for creativity (despite still sticking to the truth as much as possible, because yes, there can be truth in advertising). Perhaps this dedication to the truth is what shaped Draeco’s style that incorporates as much non-fiction as it can into science fiction—even when it comes to stories about ghosts and immortal souls. Draeco is married to a photojournalist who travels the world. Their two “kids” are now a Doctor of Medicine while the other is studying to be a Doctor of Psychology. They share their home with two dogs, four cats, a few fish, a bearded dragon, and no ghosts. For more about C.L.R. Draeco and the series Immortology, please check out clrdraeco.com.
