Ben Thornley is the Founding Partner of ICAP Partners, a strategic advisor and collaborator on the business of impact investing. Ben was a Managing Director at the pioneering Bay Area community finance institution, Pacific Community Ventures, prior to creating ICAP Partners, where he led PCV InSight, the global research and consulting practice in impact investing. Ben was responsible for co-creating a number of seminal research partnerships at PCV, including on impact investing best practices with CASE at Duke University and ImpactAssets, and on the role of policy in impact investing, with the Initiative for Responsible Investment (IRI) at Harvard University and the World Economic Forum. He built the Impact Investing Policy Collaborative (IIPC) with the IRI, a global network of researchers and public officials, the Accelerating Impact Investing Initiative (AI3) with IRI and Enterprise Community Partners, a platform for applied research and action on policy in the US, and the Global Learning Exchange on Social Impact Investing, an output of the UK's 2013 presidency of the G8, co-convened by the IIPC, UK Cabinet Office, and World Economic Forum. Ben is recognized as a prominent thought leader and was invited by the White House to make the first expert presentation to the international Taskforce on Social Impact Investing, providing an overview of the US market to delegates in Washington, DC. Under Ben's stewardship, PCV InSight grew from a small research practice with two employees into a global advisory service with seven employees and over $2 million in revenue. Ben continues to advise leading financial and philanthropic institutions including CalPERS and Annie E. Casey Foundation through PCV InSight's work as a leading third-party evaluator of the social and economic impacts resulting from over $25 billion of targeted investments, across asset classes. Ben received a Masters of Public Policy from UC Berkeley, where he also taught leadership and political economy under Robert Reich, the former US Secretary of Labor. He sits on the advisory committee of the Impact Reporting and Investment Standards and is the co-author, together with Cathy Clark and Jed Emerson, of The Impact Investor: Lessons in Leadership and Strategy for Collaborative Capitalism (Jossey-Bass, 2014). Ben writes a featured blog on the Huffington Post at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ben-thornley/ and tweets at @ImpactInSight.
