About this listen

When Princess Guendolen’s privileged existence is shattered by tribal war and the threat of rape impends, she is left with no choice but to surrender her virginity to a lowly commoner. The spoiled sovereign expects a night of torment and shame. Instead, her unlikely bedfellow introduces her to a world of carnal delights.

Prince Taran, dreaded leader of the savage Picts, approaches. He plans to pluck Guendolen’s prized maidenhead. Once she carries his heir, he will claim her father’s throne. King Cedric hatches a frantic scheme. His daughter must lie with one of their own. Better a Briton babe growing in her womb than a Pictish one. With every last man fighting on the battlefield, there is only one lad who is available for such a task, and that is Phalen, her childhood nemesis.

Mysterious as he is defiant, the adopted son of the village blacksmith has little interest in Guendolen’s beauty and considers the overindulged “jewel of the kingdom” to be a royal pain in the rear. Sparks fly each time they meet. On the fated night, Guendolen does her best to obstruct Phalen from carrying out his orders, but what starts out as an act of duty soon turns into an evening of passion.

Our hero and heroine reunite two years later. She, having given birth to his son; and he, having returned from battle - now a formidable warrior. Under constant pressure from her father to marry, Guendolen agrees to wed the father of her bastard child, whose touch she still wears like a brand. The elusive Phalen continues to rile the princess with his taunting gaze, denying her the attention she craves in and out of the bedchamber. Will she ever be able to win the favor of this dark and brooding man?

Good story

I liked the storyline and the characters was well written. The stilted language took a while to get used to, I actually don’t know if I ever got used to it.....

One of the things I did enjoy was that there was no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings. The love scenes was steamy.

I didn’t like for the narrator and it had nothing to do with performance because the pronunciation was clear and the reading was passionate. I just couldn’t find the voice comfortable listening to, that’s just my opinion.
However I did enjoy this story and I would love to listen to a story from this author set in our time and with another narrator.

The Maurader

I loved this book in every way! The conversations and quick comebacks these two have towards each other were fantastic! And the twist that you didn’t see coming was even better! Overall a great book and the pick of narration was absolutely perfect! The accent done here is perfect.

Wonderful narration

I will start by saying that this hero (if you can call him that) is hard to love.
Phalen, the adopted son of a blacksmith, has never cared for the young princess Guendolen. She has lived a privileged and sheltered life, doted on by those around her. But when war threats their country and the savage Picts approach, Phalen is the princess' only protection.
Two years later Guendolen and Phalen are reunited but both of their lives have dramatically changed. Phalen is not the man he claimed to be but with a child and a union between them Guendolen has no choice but to follow him back to his home land.
Virginia Ferguson does a wonderful job bringing the characters to live with her narration. I've enjoyed her reading of other books and I was happy to listen to her again.

Great story

I enjoy reading this book. The plots and story line is very good. The only thing I didn’t like about is how childish the heroine was. I wish she would stopped saying that she’s beautiful and that’s enough. She’s liked a little child all through. Virginia Ferguson did an great job at narrating.

Good historical romance

This is my first Tessa Bowen book and I thought it was enjoyable. The princess's father forced her to mate with her enemy. He did not want her to mate with one of the Picts. This was an interesting story.

Virginia Ferguson did a good job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Marauder

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I cannot say I loved it as much as some of Tessa’s other books. I think the time period is more not my favorite and just don’t enjoy the customary actions of relationships of those times. The narrator I actually think I preferred her male voice to the female characters but overall she was not bad. In general though it’s a decent story and if you enjoy this type of time period book you will probably enjoy this one.

Main female character is a egomaniac

The story was good but the main female character was really annoying. I know she was supposed to be but I don’t think she actually redeemed her narcissistic behavior by the end like I hoped she would.

Great narration but wasn’t a huge fan of the characters

Although I did not like the characters very much I did enjoy the story. I found Gwendolyn to be whiney and Taran was kind of a jerk the whole way through. I did enjoy how the narrator brought these characters to life. I was provided this audiobook in exchange for a review

Fun and Sexy!

This is the first book in the The Pillager Series. Wow! I love this story! The characters are really great! The story has it all: Fun, sexy, steamy, sweet, fast-paced, and suspenseful. Virginia Ferguson did an outstanding and amazing narration! I enjoyed my listening, and can't wait for the next book in the Series. You had me at witty banter!

OMG! I love this one! I can’t believe this story!!! It’s so fun that I sit here with a smile on my face. The shocks and....maaann that witty back and forth banter?!? I can NOT get enough of that! This will easily be an audio I will listen to again and again. Guendolen (cool spelling) is a girl who is used as a pawn but turns it to her advantage. She is tenacious once she finds what she wants. I many times thought..”just move on! “ but she doesn’t want to and sinks her teeth in and hangs on!

Tessa Bowen did a great job with these two characters. They are smart and I really “felt” for them both on different occasions. The story moves along at a quick pace and did I mention that bantering? Oh I did? Well I loved it and it add to these characters.

I listened to this on audio and it was the best! I have not listened to Virginia Ferguson before and at first thought she would be hard to understand with the accent. BUT she surprised me and I ended up loving her voicing these characters. She really brought them to life!
