Publisher's summary

Abducted from a life of privilege, she was sold into slavery in a distant land. For Lady Janet Leslie there would be no escaping the harem of the wealthy and powerful Sultan Selim. But from the moment the handsome ruler spied his breathtaking "Cyra," he was captivated—by the fiery desire that coursed through his veins. She belonged to him, body and soul-yet it was he who was enslaved.

Praised for her keen sense of history and remarkable storytelling powers, the bestselling author of The Spitfire displays the passionate magic that has made her a national favorite—sweeping the listener into the romantic past, from the magnificence of Renaissance Europe to the perfumed splendor of a Sultan's court.

My favorite book of all time

So glad to finally have this in an audio book. I had to speed up to 1.5 because the narrator spoke so slowly. I would have loved it if there were both a female and a male narrator but just being able to listen to this book has made me very happy.

Janet Leslie walked so Skye O’Malley could run!

Set in the perilous world of the Ottoman Empire with complex character development. Janet Leslie might be the only other of Small’s heroines to rival the indomitable Skye O’Malley. If you have not read the O’Malley saga, I highly recommend reading it after completing this duet. The late and great Bertrice Small will not be for everyone, and I can respect that. The romance is as hard-hitting as it is captivating. She doesn't shy away from depicting the raw and often harsh realities of love and power in a historical context. The relationships are richly layered and emotionally intense, bringing forth both the passion and the pain. Small's narrative integrates romantic elements seamlessly into the broader historical narrative, creating a story that is both deeply personal and epic in scope.

In essence, “The Kadin” is distinguished not only by its rich historical detail but also by its authentic portrayal of love and ambition, making it a gripping read for those who appreciate a romance that strikes with profound depth and realism.

🎧 Worth the credit! Jessica Bright delivered a solid performance that allowed me to get lost in the story. A massive thank you to Audible. Additionally, shoutout to one of my favorite audiobook publishers, Tantor Audio, for recording some of my favorite authors with quality productions.
