About this listen

Sex. Horror. Discomfort.

In five stories and one poem, you'll find questions and answers, and you might learn something about yourself along the way. Something uncomfortable. Something dark.

What if eternal life really can be found in the Church, but not in the way you've been taught and not without some...changes...to your body?

If you're lonely and the world is ending, does it really matter if your lover is actually alive as long as they love you in return?

When you're a doctor without morals, medical experiments are a way of life. But what if your subjects need entertainment? Why not a special pet?

If your love life needs help, make sure you don't ask a god, because they can give you exactly what you want - or at least, what you think you want.

Sometimes, bad people can do good things and might even end up being a hero. Unfortunately, it might cost you a few toes. And your life. And the entire world. But for a beautiful woman, isn't it worth it?

And when seeking a legendary beast in the Congolese jungle, make sure to wear good boots. You never know when you might have to run.

Come on in and join us. Lean back, open up, and let us take a look at that tickle. We're sure it's nothing serious.

Just...something in your mouth.

Weird....and I loved it!

This short story collection was totally weird and creepy and I frickin loved it. It's so weird. As a kid, I hated that time of year when the English teacher would bust out the short stories. I could never get into them. But since I started reading some of these horror-type short story collections, I've really started getting into them. If I'm not feeling the first one, five minutes later I might be in a story that I love. But these stories were all really great. I definitely want to read more from Terry Maggert. I love her style!

A strange title for some really strange stories!

If you think Alice in Wonderland had a crazy tea party you need to listen to, A Cuppa, they have so many not just out-of-the-box stories, but funny stories that made me laugh and I know I shouldn’t have. This book is so worth reading and I highly recommend it. I really enjoyed this author and I totally enjoyed this book.

A great collection of Shorts

Very imaginative stories to start with and then he tied them all together. Definitely recommend to any lover or horror stories

The narration was done quite well by all 5 narrators. Usually with a group, there are at least one that just does not work, but this was well cast.

A fun collection of short stories

Something in Your Mouth is a collection of five short horror/erotica stories and one poem. Each one is narrated by a different person, which added to the uniqueness of the audiobook.
Story number one, a Warm Cuppa, has an almost Lovecraftian feel too it. It kinda reminded me, oddly enough, of season five of Buffy. A man who just wants a good romp or two (or more) with a single mom learns just how magical attending her daughter's tea party can be.
Story number two, Znapper, is probably my favorite of them all. It's about a snapping turtle. But there's so much more to it than that. I won't spoil anything. Just...it's fantastic and I loved it.
Story number three, Cool to the Touch, is about a virus. And people changing. This one was kinda depressing.
Story number four, The Mother Tongue, is about vampirism and the Church. I didn't care for this one, but I'm not a huge fan of vampires. It was pretty interesting, though.
Story number five, Pictures for Pleasure, is my second favorite story. This one is absolutely ridiculous, and I laughed out loud so many times. Stella and her sister are amazing, and the warlock they go to see made me think of the Greek God Dionysus.
The poem that's included is short and leaves you curious and wanting more. It'd be cool to have that fleshed out into something horrifying.
I rather enjoyed this audiobook. The narration is done well. Each person brings something different to the table in terms of how they read the story. The voices were easily distinguishable and clear enough to understand without issue. My favorite voice was the narrator for the last story (Pictures for Pleasure).
Overall, if you're looking for some intriguing horror stories with some erotica thrown in, give Something in Your Mouth a whirl.

A bit horror, a bit paranormal, a bit humorous

I’ve enjoyed several fantasy novels by Terry Maggert so I looked forward to diving into this collection of his horror short stories. It is indeed a dark and twisted collection of tales! 4.5/5 stars.

A Warm Cuppa – I’ll never look at a kid’s tea party the same again! This was a delightfully messed up story. In the hunt for quality sexytime with the little girl’s mommy, this guy (who has no real interest in kids) decides the best way to score time with the mom, is to find a gift for the kid that will keep the squirt occupied for hours. What starts as a steamy hook up, ends horrifically.

Znapper – Now I look at the nearby pig farm with suspicion! This was a different kid of messed up. There’s pigs, a big old snapping turtle, and a rude alcoholic. In the end, I wanted to know more about the guy who supplied the special liquor. I feel this story could be a short prequel to something more.

Cool to the Touch – Zombie sex (shudder). Apparently, the world has fallen to some virus. The story opens with a husband saying his last goodbye to his wife in a very intimate way. Lots of graphic sex. Normally, that’s a hooray! from me but the story wanders into zombies sex. Being a biologist, I shudder at the thought of anyone putting their genitals against or in dead things. Anyhoo, our main guy gets more than he was expecting and he’s none too happy about it.

The Mother Tongue – Well, that could very explain somethings about mother church! This one made me chuckle. I love the simple subversive nature of this story. The pope and his cardinals aren’t exactly a source of religious wisdom and light in this tale. In fact, there’s something very weird going on. Really enjoyed this one.

Pictures for Pleasure – Ha! The hunt for the perfect sex life is never over. This one had me laughing at inappropriate moments. There’s these two sisters and they are both suffering a bit from the amorous natures of their respective husbands. Since it looks like they won’t be able to slow their men down, they look for a way to catch up with them.

Burroughs and the Congolese Dr. – I want more! One short poem is not enough! I can see a whole trilogy built on this premise alone.

The Narration: Each story had a single narrator and I liked that the gender of the narrator matched the main character in each tale. The overall narration was top notch. All the characters had distinct voices and the male characters sounded masculine and the female characters sounded feminine. I especially like the old grumpy alcoholic woman in Znapper. The hick voices for the sisters in Pictures for Pleasure were also great. There were no tech issues with the recording. 5/5 stars.

I received early access to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are 100% my own.

Cannot recommend enough for horror junkies

Horror and sex - I have to admit I was intrigued. I love horror, but I don't think I've ever come across another book that advertised as containing both. Let's break down my review. The narrators (Lauren Ezzo, Kristin James, J.S. Arquin, Lisa Zimmerman, and Eric London) did a great job of conveying the creep factor. They each had a unique voice, and really drew me into the story (no monotone deliveries). The stories were much darker, creepier, and enticing than I was expecting, and I loved it! I was definitely not prepared for what I got, and I honestly think listening to the story conveyed a level of creepiness that I wouldn't have gotten from a copy of the book (although I wouldn't mind adding it to my bookshelves). Overall an absolutely bone-chilling experience that had me looking over my shoulder while listening in the bright afternoon sun. Cannot recommend enough for horror junkies like me!

Great Collection of Short Stories

I really liked the stories presented in the short anthology. This definitely should just be classified as horror versus erotica. I primarily listen to horror and a lot of the horror I listen to is way more "erotic" than this and what I heard seemed quite low key for something claiming sex. That said, they were good stories that I really enjoyed and found them more suspenseful than anything else, and I love me some good tension. Each story offered something totally unique and while I preferred some over than others, they were all worth listening to. All in all this is a good collection and I liked the tension each story offered. The narration was great. I liked the change in narration for each story. It really made each story standout as its own and prevented me from seeing the collection as a continuation. Really happy with this listen and I went through this in one sitting. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
