Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

i would recommend someone read this book. the narration detracted from the story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The hero of the book sounded like an old woman -- as did every other man. And every now and then I'd detect a bit of "less than proper aristocratic" accent on the hero as the narrator was affecting a British accent (it was not natural). I may have enjoyed the story more with the right narrator. As it is, this is the first Johanna Lindsey book I've listened to (I've read and enjoyed her stories) and I'm seriously doubting I can get through the series with this narrator. What a shame as the reviews indicate the series is a good one.

I really liked this entire series. This was the first in the series, so it was unexpected for me. I enjoyed meeting the Malory family and learning of the traits that each brother posessed! I also loved how they all watch over Reggie and come together to help her throughout! Laural Merlington has a fabulous voice and I could really escape the perils of a hectic day. I have never enjoyed traffic jams so much!

There's charm and humor to this story, but no thanks to the hero. He's a self-pitying jerk who treats people horribly. His signature move is to be deliberately despicable in order to drive the heroine away, so when she gets mad he can say "See? It's just as I thought, she doesn't care." He lies and abandons people and makes vicious, unfounded allegations--and his idea of sexual consent is pretty hazy. But apparently anything can be forgiven if the guy is hot enough? Sigh.

I don't understand how the narrator is so highly rated. She makes all the men sound gruff, even the lords. The women all sound like simpering damsels in distress, especially the main character. And the worst part is that most of the voices sound the same. The story is as excellent as I remember, no faults there.
