About this listen

Damian, earl of Windermere, rues the day he drunkenly gambled away his family's estate and was forced into marriage to reclaim it. Now, after hiding out from his new bride for a year, Damian is finally called home, only to discover that his modest bride has become an alluring beauty - and rumor has it that she's taken a lover. Damian vows to keep his wife from straying again, but to do so he must seduce her - and protect his heart from falling for the wife he never knew he wanted.

Lady Cynthia never aspired to be the subject of scandal. But with her husband off gallivanting across Persia, what was a lady to do? Flirting shamelessly with his former best friend seemed like the perfect revenge...except no matter how little Damian deserves her loyalty, Cynthia can't bring herself to be unfaithful. But now that the scoundrel has returned home, Cynthia isn't about to forgive his absence so easily - even if his presence stirs something in her she'd long thought dead and buried. He might win her heart...if he can earn her forgiveness.

Contains mature themes.

Critic reviews

"Neville takes a clever premise, likable protagonists, and a broken relationship that needs mending, adds a few old secrets, plenty of political machinations, and a touch of jealousy and spins it into a lively tale of mystery and romance that adds another chapter to her popular quartet." Just Ok

I am glad this book was free to me because I never would have purchased it. When I sampled the narrating I thought that I could possibly enjoy it but I was wrong. It was very hard to tell who was speaking when it came to the men and so it was kind of hard to follow. I listened to this book out of sequence and that's okay for me, but I will not even waste my time on the other books if Charlotte Anne Dore is the narrator.

Painful narration

Love the story, but done with the series if the narrator is the same. She'd clipped, almost robotic, with inappropriate voice inflections and slowing or speeding up. The heroin ends up with an extremely high pitched mousey voice. Gives me a headache.

very mixed feelings... and here is why:

Choppy, clipped and over enunciated, the totally wrong inflection and bizarre rhythm of the narrator detracts from the story... a lot! Given that comment I have to say that I did listen to it all... and that there were no confusing moments where voices of characters were indistinguishable. I actually really liked the story even tho it left me feeling a little bit lost. I suspect Julians story, which must be next, will solve it all. I pray for a different narrator!!!!

worth a credit? hell yes and heavens no!
Heat factor.... 4.....a steamy 4!
