About this listen

What do you do when your life is over before it even really began?

For Melody Bledsoe, the answer is to go home and lick your wounds.

A former child prodigy, Melody was always the best dancer in her class - in her town, even. All that changed when she won a scholarship to a prestigious performing arts school in New York and quickly learned what it's like to be a little fish in a big pond.

For Jessie Cartwright, the answer is to survive.

Pregnant at 16 - and on her first date no less - Jessie had no choice but to drop out of school and pour her heart and soul into raising her daughter, even if it did come at the expense of her own happiness.

When Melody returns home wearing the new label of failed ballerina, she takes a job at a dance studio where she meets Jessie and her daughter, Ellie, a rising star in her own right. Melody is just trying to find a new purpose, and Jessie only wants to give her daughter the best childhood possible, but as their lives become entwined they begin to see a new life on the horizon ... together.

Pirouette On My Heart

Melody returns home after defeated in her try to become a prima ballerina. After taking a job as a receptionist at a dance studio she meets Jesse and her daughter Ellie. Their immediate attraction leads to delicious moments of tension. Sweet romance. Some sound problems that are distracting. Recommend Author.

Well written story

Recording is not the best... sometimes it felt it was recorded in the rest room...
I liked this story it had some element of surprise.

compelling

the audio quality sucked, at some points it sounded like two different reading or at the very least inconsistent audio quality, sometimes clear, other times there was a reverb you could hear the room, but it seemed that the sound engineer cut in takes with better quality and it was clear that they had stopped and started it was distracting and during the worst possible moments. whole words seemed to be carved up mid sentence. Now as far as the story goes, fantastic, great buildup of tension and familiar conflict of real world needs vs. romantic desire, I've known couples like that, I lived in a town like theirs and it's refreshing to not have the entire thing propped up by "well one of them is rich so it will all work out somehow" I laughed my ass off when Jesse was critiquing the paperback and that familiar need to find representation in romance novels.

Cute story with some depth

I listened to the audiobook version. I really liked this book. I can't really think of any negatives. It's a cute story. There's some depth to it, but nothing too depressing or overwhelming. It's light in spite of some of the subject matter. It's well written and I didn't notice any errors. However, I do have to mention the production value of the audiobook. It's definitely listenable and enjoyable, but there are many times where the flow is interrupted. It seems like certain parts were inserted later, and the sound quality changes throughout the book. It just doesn't come across as polished. I enjoyed the story a lot, so I can forgive the quality, but I definitely noticed! One error on the narrator's part is when plaintive was pronounced plaintiff, a mistake that always makes me crack up when I hear it. The narrator is good, overall.
