About this listen

From the moment Nathaniel laid eyes on Emmy Westerly, he wanted her in his life. He would do anything to get her there and keep her there. To his surprise, Nathaniel found himself quickly pulled into Emmy's dark world of whips and blindfolds, kink and submission. He was intrigued not only by the thrill of it, but by the enigma which led Emmy there as well.

Emmy could not resist Nathaniel Walsh. She couldn't deny the electricity between them, the utter animal magnetism she felt for him. Emmy was mystified by someone as honest and uncomplicated as Nathaniel allowing her to lead him into the dark. She adored having him at the tip of her lash.

But Emmy had secrets - deep, cruel truths which led her to Club Imperial, and staying with Nathaniel would mean telling him everything. He wasn't ready for that.

Neither was she.

intriguing

This was a story with many twists and turns. I loved the setting in Pittsburgh, it brought back many memories of home. The brash accent of Nathaniel's first girlfriend was spot on. Loved iit and the mention of Pemmenti's sandwiches made my mouth water. Wish it didn't end on a cliffhanger though.

Solid Story, Weak Delivery

Where does Consensual rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very engaging story - a little short of character development, but the characters are three-dimensional. The erotic aspects are very well done. I have little experience in this genre, but the story is well cast.

How could the performance have been better?

First and foremost - the volume was too soft. One can not clearly make out Ms. Kennicott's delivery over normal traffic and road noise with the windows closed - this is the only audiobook with which I have had this issue. Also, there are multiple repeated (and regrettable) mispronunciations of words.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

N/A

Any additional comments?

Hope to see the sequel on Audible soon, as well as the entire story arc.

Made it through, but struggled

This book might have been useful for complete neophytes, but I felt preached to at times. Sad that this is Book 1 and there doesn't seem to be a Book 2. I want to find out what happens next to these characters.

A surprize that was totally addicting to listen to

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If I would know others who love BDSM I would most definitively recommend this book to them as I found the characters not only complex but also very relatable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Emmy of course. With her difficult past that I hope to know more of in the next book, I found her pain quite relatable. Knowing how anxiety can ruin a life, I was able to relate to her search of power and control through what she was doing.

What about Kai Kennicott’s performance did you like?

Although she whispered throughout the book, I found her work pretty good. At first I found odd that she did the book the way she did, but after a while, I found it gave a more personal touch to the story and made it more private at the same time. Great job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

What seemed like a life of control can often hide scars of pain and blood that is not easy to hide.

Any additional comments?

I so have to get my hands on book 2! The cliffhanger that was in the end of the book pretty much made me bald as Is just wanted to rip my hair out of my skull. Yeah, it is that kind of a story, with that kind of an ending that will drive us nuts with wanting to know how it will all end. Great job by the author.
