Audible Unveils Originals in Brazil, Celebrating First Year of Service
Audible’s service for Brazil and Amazon Serviços de Varejo do Brasil Ltda today launched the first nationally produced Audible Original content to mark the first anniversary of the company’s dedicated service for Brazilian listeners. These Originals span genres including entertainment, history, education and journalistic investigation—always with a uniquely Brazilian flavor and produced with highly engaging narratives and rich sound effects. Esteemed Brazilian creators and producers such as Bianca Comparato, João Jardim, Manuela Cantuária, Thiago André, Paula Scarpin and Renata Tupinambá have contributed new storytelling to the collection. Prominent Brazil talent have lent their voices to the slate, with Originals featuring Alice Braga, Cláudia Abreu, Eduardo Moscovis, Daiara Tukano, Debora Lamm, Jorge Lucas, Lázaro Ramos, Paola Carosella, Patrícia Hargreaves, Rafa Brites and more. These new Audible Originals are available for Audible’s Brazilian members. Kindle editions are also now available in Brazil as these stories were created and scripted to be both read and heard.
Among these new Audible Originals are Por que Mudei?, by Lázaro Ramos, and Clube das Impostoras, by Rafa Brites, both of which bring inspiring testimonials with a focus on personal development. The catalog includes investigative historical content such as Yawara – uma história oculta do Brasil, with Alice Braga and Daiara Tukano, Do Céu ao Inferno – O caso Herberts Cukurs with Patrícia Hargreaves, as well as Aparthaid Tropical, with Thiago André from História Preta. The collection also includes fiction such as Ninguém com Esse Nome, starring Cláudia Abreu, Eduardo Moscovis and Debora Lamm. Nem Só de Pão, with Paola Carosella, has an autobiographical flavor, and Método Exposto, with Jorge Lucas, brings humorous content to the catalog. Audible.com.br also now offers more than 110 hours of educational content with Casa do Saber teachers.
"We're excited to announce the first Audible Originals for Brazil as native stories that highlight the country's cultural diversity and that have never been told here like this. They also bring to light topics relevant to society, such as politics, Nazism, gender, historical rescue, preservation of indigenous peoples and much more. This is the natural next step in the evolution of our business as we have seen great success with our ever-growing content and audience. Throughout this first year in the country, we have increased the audiobook catalog to more than 700,000 titles, 6,000 of which are in Portuguese. This is how we can continue to offer more high-quality audio content to more people,” says Adriana Alcântara, Brazil country manager for Audible.
“Since we launched Audible’s service for Brazilian listeners a year ago, we have worked with incredible Brazilian narrators to provide best-in-class audiobooks with dynamic production. Now, with the addition of Audible Originals, which symbolize Audible’s effort to continue contributing to the development of the Brazilian creative community, we’ve expanded our collaboration to include more groundbreaking and diverse creators and performers who are telling vibrant Brazilian stories,” says Leonardo Neumann, content director for Audible Originals in Brazil. “Together we are developing this inspiring medium that lets storytelling ignite our listeners’ imaginations in ways only Audible can.”
Starting in October, Audible will announce new productions monthly, including the audio documentary O Maníaco do Parque, with Silvero Pereira, Angola Janga, with Luis Miranda, Chumbo & Soul with Radio Novelo, and much more.
All Originals released are available for Audible’s subscribers in Brazil along with the audiobooks catalog on www.audible.com.br or Audible app. They can be played on all smart devices, including iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Amazon Echo and PCs. You can also ask Alexa, Amazon's virtual assistant, to read titles from your virtual library.
The Pitching Project
To further bolster the local creative economy, Audible’s service for Brazillian listeners is also launching “The Pitching Project,” an initiative that provides opportunity for writers, screenwriters and other creative professionals to work with Audible to create and produce an Audible Original. Additional details, competition rules and instructions for submissions are forthcoming.
For those interested in participating in the selection process, Audible offers a free 30-episode workshop on “Creating an Audible Original”. In this audio series, Paulo Corrêa invites experienced professionals for debates, masterclasses and case studies that cover the stages and aspects of creating and producing audio narrative.
Audible’s service for Brazil is sold by Amazon Serviços de Varejo do Brasil Ltda., and the catalog available includes more than 700,000 audiobooks with titles from renowned authors and leading publishers.
