Summer is coming to Lund, a university town in the south of Sweden, and the students are looking forward to their summer break. But tragedy casts its dark shadow over the city when a young woman is found brutally beaten in Lund City Park. Not far from the crime scene, a young man is also found assaulted. Both victims are discovered holding a white lilac in their hand. Chief Inspector Sara Vallén is put on the case but is quickly removed when her son turns out to be the main suspect. To clear her son’s name, Vallén decides to start her own investigation.

Intrigue, illusions, and insidious motives... Still recovering from testifying against her abuser, Chief Inspector Sara Vallén is called out to investigate a mysterious death in an idyllic allotment on the outskirts of Lund. The victim - a beloved social worker - is found brutally murdered inside one of the potting sheds. But when Sara and the police dig deeper into the case, they begin to unravel a web of dark secrets surrounding the victim's seemingly perfect life.

Chief Inspector Sara Vallén receives a tip that could help solve a 20-year-old cold case about a two-year-old boy who disappeared from his preschool without a trace. Meanwhile, Sara’s daughters Klara and Bella are being harassed by a group of young Nazi sympathisers for starting a student association supporting unaccompanied refugee youths. One of these youths, Reza, is found dead in Höje with a swastika carved into his forehead. A hunt for the killer begins while Vallén and her colleague, Torsten Venngren, follow up on the new lead on the missing toddler.
