A Georgina Drake Mystery

Widowed Georgina Drake has no regrets about moving to beautiful, sleepy Little Wenborough in rural Norfolk. Until she opens the door to her rental property and finds the dead body of her latest guest, irritable university professor Roland Garnett. And on top of that she’s suddenly hearing a woman’s voice through her hearing aids. Completely shaken by the discovery, Georgina can hardly believe it when the police conclude that Professor Garnett was poisoned, with a dinner delivered by Georgina herself.

Georgina Drake’s job photographing beautiful Hartington Hall takes a dramatic turn when she enters the ancient ice house to find the lady of the manor dead on the floor. The second wife of the irascible owner of the hall, Karen Berry had plenty of enemies. Her death could have been an accident, but when Georgina hears how Karen had argued with her husband, alienated her two step-daughters, and fired the long-standing housekeeper for theft, she’s not convinced.

But the drama becomes distressingly real when one of the actors, Neil Faulkner, is found stabbed to death. And Georgie is dismayed to see a faint spatter of blood on her daughter’s arm. Georgie knows Bea isn’t a murderer, but the local police don’t seem inclined to trust her admittedly biased opinion. And when a distraught Bea admits that Neil was blackmailing her, things start to look serious.

The police suspect a carbon monoxide leak, but to Georgina's professional eye, something about the scene looks too staged to be an accident. As if one body wasn't enough, Georgina has barely managed to share her concerns with charming DI Colin Bradshaw when her spaniel, Bert, digs up human remains buried near the lighthouse. Could these decades-old bones be connected to Manson's death?
